Control (A Shadow The Hedgehog x Reader Story)

Soon they were back home, and Shadow had gone for a shower. Y/n sat waiting on the sofa, pondering over how she could help.

After about ten minutes, Shadow came out and walked over to her, sitting himself down on the other end of the sofa. "C-Can I come with you?" Y/n asked. "Hm?" Shadow asked, contemplating the idea. "If you don't want to go, but have to, let me come. You saved me and the least I can do is be there for you" she said reassuringly, placing her hand on his knee. Y/n pleaded with her eyes, whilst Shadow sat in thought. Despite everything he thought, he said yes to her.

"Do i need to pack anything?" She asked, getting herself ready for whatever she had just agreed to. "No, just bring your smile and your enthusiasm" he said with a small smile, she smiled back with a "yes sir!" Which let out a small single chuckle from Shadow.

He pulled out a shiny green jewel, and looked at it. "Whats that Shads?" She asked admiring its glimmer. "It's a chaos emerald, we need it to get where we are going" he said preparing himself.

"Ready?" He asked, offering his hand. She nodded, taking ahold of it and holding tightly. He held the emerald up, shouting out "chaos control!" And his living room disappeared from sight.

Moments later, y/n opened her eyes. She looked around, there was metal everywhere and a large window at the front. She let go of Shadow's hand and walked to it. "S-Shadow did we just teleport into... space?" She spoke softly taking in the surroundings and looking out across the night sky. So many planets and stars gleamed and she couldn't believe she was finally seeing it from space.

"Y/n this is the space colony ARK" he said introducing her, and preparing for a bonbardment of questions. "You teleported us into space" she said in bewilderment, sititng herself on the floor. "You have powers too" she added.

Shadow sat himself infront of her. "I thought you saw me teleport from the mushroom soup incident?" He asked and stated at the same time. "I thought I was high on hospital drugs!" She shouted out. "What else don't I know about you?" She asked nervously, like her whole time on earth had been a lie. "Hold my hands, please?" He asked somewhat nervously. "I want you to see it" he added. She reluctantly took his hands. "Now lean your forehead on mine and hope this works" he said leaning in. They leant towards each other, foreheads touching.

At that moment y/n saw everything clearly in her mind like a moving playing. She saw Shadow being tested on, playing with Maria, running, seeking answers and revenge. She watched his face as he was put into stasis, and woken up fifty years later. Then she saw him go godlike and save the earth, the amnesia, saving the world again and again. It was a lot to take in.

After a few minutes it all ended. He continued holding her hands as they moved their heads away from each other. "I-you" she said speechlessly. They both sat for a moment, just holding hands. She leant into him and hugged him tight. He was confused for a second, but hugged back as she whispered "Maria would be so proud of you" making emotions rise in him again.

They carried on looking out over the stars. "Maybe she's still out there, like in another dimension watching Shadow" she said, trying to be as helpful as she could. She really wanted to be there for him, she couldn't imagine all the things he had been through. All she could relate to was the amnesia.

After a few moments Shadow refocused himself. "I was told some sort of life force was detected up here, I was asked to check it out" he said, standing up, then offering y/n a hand up. "I don't hear anything other than us" y/n answered as she looked around, trying not to disturb anything. She wanted to leave the place just as it was.

Shadow had already wandered around checking for any sign of life. He'd left y/n with one room to check, saying something about it being the least traumatic and safest one. There was a bed, some toys and an old broken television among other things.

"Hi" y/n heard, and she screamed and turned around. Infront of her was a young girl, with blonde hair and a blue headband, wearing all blue and standing with the kindest smile. She looked just like the girl from Shadow's memories.

"Maria?" she asked, walking up to the girl. "But you're" she continued.

"Thats my name! I know I am no longer alive, its okay you can say it" the girl smiled and continued. "I've come to terms with my fate, I saved my best friend and thats what mattered most" she said cheerily.

"Shadow misses you a lot" y/n said, smiling at the girl as they both sat down together. "I know, but I'm so proud of him, he's saved the world a couple of times you know" she said still smiling and cheerful. "I'm proud of him too, he's helped me so much in the last week or so" y/n said wishing she could spend hours with Shadow's best friend.

After about an hour of them chatting Shadow turned up. "Y/n I haven't found anyone or anything lets go" Shadow said angrily entering the room. "Why are you talking to yourself?" he asked next still in a huff.

"Shadow, can you not see her?" y/n asked sadly, looking at Maria, she had the biggest smile on her face seeing her best friend. "See who? You have been in space too long come on its home time" he said as he pulled y/n up. "Shadow..." Maria said, now frowning that he couldn't see her.

"Shadow, I've been sat talking to Maria this whole time" y/n said calmly, trying not to upset him. "M-Maria?" he questionned, and kneeled on the metal flooring. "Can you not see her Shadow?" she questionned, he just shook his head. "Will you tell him what I said?" Maria asked, y/n nodded in his direction. "W-What is she saying?" he asked, now believing y/n.

"She said she's been watching over you and she's so, so proud. She wishes she was still alive and could be here with you physically, but she's so glad she sent you to earth in her final moments" y/n relayed as the two of them started tearing up. "I miss you Maria, I'm glad I have made you proud" Shadow said, a single tear dropping from his eye. It broke y/n's heart.

"M-Maria why don't you try talking through me?" y/n asked, there was a light flash and her eyes reopened, now a swirling purple.
