chapter 33

"This is where the humans mingle and exchange their goods,"she explained from above a building,"wanna take a closer look?"suggested Dew earning a nod from him

"So many fruits, it's enough to feed the whole of two tribes for days,"marveled the male

"Well I wouldn't say enough for days but I suppose it is .... abundant."

The inspected around for a while until the shopkeeper arrived making them move to a different stall, joining with Felipe and the young

"And over here's the souvenir stand,when you travel to a new place,you take a piece of something to serve as a memory,a reminder of your time spent.Speaking of I should take a souvenir for-"paused Dew,"Oh-no,Luiz!"

"The drooler?"questioned Felipe making the other adult male confused

"That's a cool villain name!"chimed Tiago

"Oh no,the poor puppy's going to be so upset!"

"That's okay! Uncle Luiz doesn't hold grudges,you can bring him a gift!"suggested Bia

"Right!"grabbing the closest thing, which was a tropical hat,next to her,she ushered her family to fly immediately

"Aren't we going to pay for that!?"panicked Carla huffing as they flew out of the market place with a very angry human behind them!

"We're birds darling!we don't have pockets to carry money!"shouted the aunt leading them to fly  even higher,until the human could reach them no more

Feeling the adrenaline rush,the flock flew faster, occasionally resting for a few moments on their way.Continuing their journey even at night as each adult carried a sleeping child on their back.

So far the adult male spix seemed nonchalant about everything human made,marveling and complimenting a few times upon their passing;through certain patches of terrain,the spix flinched,but soon awed in amazement when he got comfortable

Getting closer to home, Dew commented,"that was quicker than I expected."

"Ayy Maria!!Where you been girl?"shouted sipo the spoonbill from below where they were flying through

"The Amazon!"replied the spix flying directly to Luiz's garage,"call everyone and meet me below the statue after sunset!"

"Wassup ma' bird!"

"Hello to you too!"the spix replied at the random macaw

"Hey girl! How's family?"

"They're fine!how bout yours?"the spix replied once more

Behind her two adult male macaws are seemingly engaged in a conversation about none other than Dew herself

"She knows a lot of birds huh,"muttered Roberto earning a "hum" of agreement from the scarlet,"where'd you two first meet again?"

"I don't know what to name that place but it's not far from here,"replied the scarlet

"It's called the aviary,"chirped Bia happily informing them,"it's a place where injured and rescued birds are cared for after what they've been through, it's where our parents met!"

"Humans....care for us?"hesitantly questioned the  adult male spix,pleasantly surprised at the idea of humans caring for birds.His past and current self tugging on his consciousness from opposite ends of the invisible rope.

"You've met Dew's humans, although personally I've never met anyone else, I've heard alot from her,"stated Felipe remembering of the times Dew would go hours ranting about the duality of human nature during his recovery

"Get back here you little!"an angry voice from ahead interrupted them.Looking forward they saw  the female spix diving into the lush forest after a black figure holding the souvenir hat meant for Luiz.

The others shortly followed.Felipe however unlocked a memory from his past

Landing on the ground right Dew,they instantly formed a circle with the three young fledglings in the centre.

"What are we-"questioned Roberto in a hushed voice, immediately getting shushed by the adult female.

"Aunty Dew,is it-"whispered Tiago

Silence engulfed the forest floor,the three adults scanned the trees around from where they stood for any sign of movement,until a rustling of branches from above caught their eye.
A decently sized toucan perched with big innocent eyes appeared in sight.Roberto relaxed however the other two adults knew better.

Relaxing his wings at the teen toucan,the male spix commented,"it's just a little-"

"FIRE!"the toucan above them shouted making the scarlet and female spix cover themselves and the young with their wings.Roberto followed and shortly after,a flurry of coloured berries catapulted towards their direction staining their feathers in rainbow splotches

When the assault seemed never-ending and only got more painful as the distance between the multiple berry shooters shortened,the scarlet sqwacked in their direction, like he did years ago.
This time however,the assault only got worse making him cover himself,"they've evolved,"he chuckled making Dew roll her eyes

"That's it!"snapped Dew,"Want me to call your mother!"

In less than two seconds, silence engulfed the forest floor.The two experienced adults finally relaxed while Roberto's facial expressions contorted into a state of confusion and shock

"Haha!"laughed Dew,"it was worth learning that,now;CARLOS!"she shouted making the male toucan fly down immediately,"ah-there you are?How are you sweetie?Had your lunch?took a nap?And where's the hat!"questioned the spix in a flurry of mixed emotions ranging from sweet to aggressive.

"I'm green,"answered the teen toucan

"Let me ask you again, How's your mother?"smiled Dew

"Gloria!"upon the teen's call,a flock of young toucans come flying in,dropping the hat and exiting,quickly as possible.

Carlos soon followed his younger sisters, leaving the flock of macaws.Putting the hat on herself,Dew smiled and almost took off until a figure with crossed wings stood on her right.

The startled macaw yelped alerting the macaws,apart from the scarlet.

"Aye Santa Maria, would you stop doing that!Shhesh Eva!No wonder all your kids left except Carlos"

The toucan simply hummed in response, grinning upon noticing the scarlet,"Si,now tell me where's my husband,"

"Well, he's still in the jungle,we came first to invite the others.And he also told me to tell you, he's got a special place ready for a special lady,"whispered the spix mischievously making the toucan laugh aloud

"You know he better~,"

"And yes,Eva this is Roberto, Roberto this is Eva,"the spix introduced making the toucan assess the male, slightly making him uncomfortable,"And this is Felipe,"

"Yes I remember, finally together now.Don't you worry plum the city birds don't care who's with who,"assured Eva remembering Dew's previous rants on inter-species bonds

"Umm,well Eva,"interrupted Dew as she slowly intertwined each of her wings with the adult macaws,"We're together..."winced the female

Silence ensued for a while,the three young macaws looking at the toucan with wide eyes and their uncles with neutral expressions which read,'as expected'.

"This would be perfect moment for one to break silence,"stated Bia earning a nod from Carla

"Aren't you going to say something?"questioned Dew

After a good while,the toucan finally spoke,"Welcome to Rio~"
