Just as Ethan Steele was about to get down to business, someone knocked on the door.
Addison Hayes froze, afraid to move.
Ethan frowned and called out, "What is it?"
The soundproofing was good, but Yale's voice was still audible, muffled, "Mr. Steele, Grandma Steele is here. She's at the door..."
Ethan cursed inwardly.
Addison covered her mouth in surprise, whispering, "Is that your grandmother?"
"Yeah."
She was already at the office door.
Ethan couldn't continue. He rolled off the bed and told Yale, "Distract her downstairs. I'll come down to see her in a bit."
Addison scrambled out of bed.
Ethan saw her stumble and reached out to steady her.
Addison quickly thanked him and rushed into the bathroom.
As the door closed, Ethan straightened his clothes.
He opened the door and nearly jumped out of his skin.
Grandma Steele was standing there, glaring.
Behind her, Yale was looking down like a scolded puppy.
Old habits die hard; Yale might fear Ethan, but he feared Grandma Steele even more. After all, Ethan was devoted to his grandmother.
Ethan closed the door a little more, frowning. "Grandma, do you believe in personal space?"
Grandma Steele glanced pointedly at his lower body.
She snorted. "I didn't make a sound, did I? You could have carried on."
"Didn't you send Yale to knock?" Ethan retorted. "Using people like that, you really have no limits."
Grandma Steele glared at him. "And you're any better? You're engaged to Bianca and still messing around? Is that woman in there your mistress? Dressed so plainly, probably some college student desperate for money, right?"
"You saw her?"
"Never mind that. I'm here now, and we're going to sort this out."
Grandma Steele went back to sit in a chair, her posture ramrod straight. She looked ready to tear Addison limb from limb.
Ethan sat down, his face like thunder. "Then deal with me directly."
"You're my grandson, how can I 'deal' with you?"
"This is my doing. Blame the person responsible. You have to be reasonable."
"..."
Grandma Steele's chest tightened with anger. "I'm like this, and you're still arguing with me? Is she really that good?"
Ethan said flatly, "Yes."
"..."
Grandma Steele was speechless, and humiliated.
After spying for so long, she'd finally caught him with someone at his office.
And this was the scene.
Ethan was being so absolute.
Grandma Steele couldn't resist her curiosity. "Who exactly is she? I've never seen you this infatuated with a woman."
"You said the same thing when I was with Bianca White."
"So is this one just a fling too?"
Ethan didn't answer.
