That was as good as an admission.
Grandma Steele glanced towards the lounge door.
Raising her voice, she asked, "So you're just having fun? When you're older, you'll still choose a suitable girl from a good family, right?"
Addison couldn't hear Ethan's reply.
She only heard Grandma Steele's words.
Her earlier tension eased, replaced by sadness.
Addison stepped away, no longer eavesdropping. She sat by the window, staring at the harsh sunlight without blinking.
She'd forgotten.
Months ago, she'd so clearly warned herself to stay away from Ethan Steele, not to fall any deeper.
But what had she been doing just now?
She had succumbed again, kissing him passionately, being captivated by him as before.
Addison, are you going to ruin yourself?
Will you only be satisfied when Ethan Steele is tired of you and kicks you to the curb?
Outside, Grandma Steele felt much better.
She felt a slight discomfort in her chest and didn't want to stay any longer. She stood up and said, "I'm leaving. Remember to come home for dinner tonight."
Ethan walked her downstairs.
Grandma Steele said, "You go back. I'll wander around nearby, get some sun."
Ethan looked up at the office building across the street.
Someone was pointing binoculars at him from a window.
He narrowed his eyes.
The person on the other side realized they'd been spotted and quickly packed up their equipment.
Ethan said grimly, "Yale, find out who Grandma Steele is using."
"Yes, Mr. Steele."
After Yale left, Ethan returned to his office.
The lounge was empty.
Addison had left a message on WhatsApp: "Never mind. Let's not pay back favors like that again. Give me an amount and I'll pay you back."
Ethan frowned.
What was that little thing up to now?
He tried to call, but Addison didn't answer.
It was a sunny day, not too hot, but the sun was strong.
Grandma Steele wasn't wandering around; she was lying in wait.
She sat in the outdoor patio of a café, waiting for the woman to emerge.
It was all the fault of that photographer.
So afraid of being caught, he took the pictures from so far away that he only got a shot of the woman's back.
Without seeing her face, she had no idea how to find her.
As she waited, Grandma Steele felt increasingly unwell.
Her breathing became labored.
She took out her phone to call home.
Just as she dialed, her vision went black and she slumped onto the table.
Addison left the company through the back door and went around to the side to hail a cab.
From that angle, she saw Grandma Steele's pale face.
Having spent so much time in hospitals, she could instantly tell if someone was in trouble. She instinctively went over.
Grandma Steele was unconscious.
She was slumped over the table as if she was sleeping, and no one around seemed to notice.
Addison massaged her temples, and Grandma Steele's eyelids fluttered.
She clutched at her heart in pain.
"It hurts..."
Addison saw that she was starting to convulse and, without waiting to call an ambulance, she hauled her onto the cab she had hailed.
Luckily, Grandma Steele was quite thin.
Addison managed to get her to the hospital without too much effort.
Ring, ring—
Grandma Steele's phone was ringing.
Addison saw that the contact name was Butler, so she told him what had happened and gave him the address.
The Butler said anxiously, "Are you sure she's alright, Miss?"
"She should be fine, don't worry."
"That's good. We'll be there right away."
Because she still needed to register, pay the bill, and stay with Grandma Steele in case she needed anything, Addison couldn't leave for a while.
When the Butler arrived, Grandma Steele was just being wheeled out.
The doctor told them about Grandma Steele's condition.
"Her heart condition is quite serious. She'll need bypass surgery this year. Of course, it would be better if we could find a suitable donor heart. She's getting older, so we can't take any chances."
Addison overheard and glanced at them.
The Butler looked grave and saddened, but he still nodded politely.
Grandma Steele woke up.
The first thing she saw was Addison, and she looked confused. "Why am I in the hospital?"
Addison explained the situation briefly.
Grandma Steele smiled gratefully. "Thank you, young lady. Has this caused you any trouble? I should compensate you."
"It's fine. I have the day off. I'm not working."
Addison was pretty and fair-skinned.
Her clean face was free of makeup, and her smile was endearing.
Grandma Steele felt pleased. "Then let my family take you home later."
The Butler understood what she meant and said politely, "Miss, this way, please."
Outside, he handed Addison a check.
"Miss, to thank you for saving her life, this is a small token of our appreciation. Please accept it."
Addison glanced at it and gasped.
Fifty thousand dollars!
