"Uh —"
"Miss Walters, may I ask what you've highlighted on your syllabus?"
She couldn't read his face at that moment but still answered to avoid further embarrassment, "I — uh — I've highlighted key points to remember."
"May I look?"
For a split second his dark brown eyes caught her off guard distracting her from the question.
"May I?" He reiterated.
"Oh — yeah," Suzy handed him the papers before folding her sweaty hands together.
He became silent starting on the first page, then flipping to the next every few moments. His face continued to be unreadable. Then, he turned and grabbed a small stack of papers on his desk and handed it to her.
The papers were an unhighlighted syllabus stapled together. She stared at the words wondering if there was anything different that he would have traded the packets but after studying them so often nothing was.
"We'll start on page 1 going over office hours—"
As Professor Bad went off on his lecture Susan couldn't concentrate as this simple exchange threw her off completely.
"Why would he take mine and give me a blank one?" She thought.
No answers seemed to suit the question.
As the pages turned her booklet stayed closed. A rumbling of bloom bags and shoes on the floor broke her out of thought. Class was over now and no one wanted to stay any longer than they had to.
She began to pack her items as well and saw Professor Bad do the same, "Professor?"
"Yes, Miss Walters?" His focus remained on his belongings being shoved into the brown bag.
"Can I have my syllabus back?"
Then, his eyes glanced up at her, "I noticed you weren't paying attention to my review."
"Yes I was," Suzy blurted out. "Can I have it back?"
The Professor stopped packing his bag and moved aside his clipboard to reveal the highlighted syllabus. She looked down at his wrist to see a beaded bracelet. The beads were dark brown and barely stuck out of his sleeve.
"Miss Walters?"
"Damnit," Suzy cursed to herself, then apologized, "Here, I'm sorry, here's yours."
His eyes were on her, "Miss Walters I understand it may be the first day of school but you're no rookie to college and I have no patience for distracted students."
This was the first confirmation that he knew her, the infamous Susan Walters.
"My apologies Professor, have a nice day."
After calmly leaving the classroom her feet picked up speed to get outside.
She spotted Caroline standing on a bench just outside the building as she would normally do due to the crowds leaving class and her height. After being spotted her short friend waved enthusiastically at her causing a laugh.
She jumped down and began walking by her side, "And how was Professor Bad?"
"He took my syllabus!" Susan groaned.
Carol laughed a bit and assured her that lunch would do them both well in preparation for Professor Dangerous.
Suzy and her friend ate lunch together at the Bear Cafe* a small eating area that was similar to a Subway but with a few more food options. It was much easier to travel here then all the way back to the dorms.
