"We have a pickup for one Caroline." A police officer spoke to a guard.
The guard nodded and grabbed keys from his desk heading over to a cell. Inside Carol sat alone as Geoff had been picked up earlier. She looked up at the man as he opened up the cell door.
"Your friend is here," He explained. "She posted bail."
Susan walked over to the cell with her arms crossed and a scowl on her face.
They didn't say a word to one another while Susan filled out the release papers. Once they entered the car Carol finally spoke up.
"I can explain." She blurted out.
"Professor Thriller took me home last night. I couldn't find you anywhere. Then I get a call at 4 AM that you've been locked up for weed possession?" Susan gave her a dirty look, "Who is dumb enough to take that to a concert and then smoke it in a car after? There's constant security!"
"I know I know but Geoff had a bong in his back seat and it was brand new and he wanted to use it and I had my grinder on me and —"
"I don't want to hear it. I don't." Susan sighed then rubbed her hands down her face. "You owe me 300$, got it?"
"I'll get it back to you I promise." Carol pleaded.
"And you'll do that by taking all my night shifts and paying me from those shifts."
"What! Wait, Susan —"
"I can't keep up with my bills while my mom is in the hospital, Carol. I can't afford this. This is a big deal. You're lucky I'm asking you over time and not all at once."
Carol sat quietly, "I'm sorry, Suzy. I didn't mean to put you in bind."
"Just — don't be stupid." Susan breathed, "Okay, now down to business. How the hell does Geoff know Professor Thriller?"
"Dude! I had no idea they were even friends. All he said was Michael was going and Theres how many Michael's on this earth."
"Sadly several at the school."
"What happened when you went home with him? He took you to the dorms right?"
Susan leaned back in her seat adjusting her grip on the steering wheel, "Yeah he brought me inside and offered me a food run or something. I said no that I had food and told him to just go home. Nothing special, but like , it was really — nice."
"Nice?"
"I've had a few classes with him in the past. He wasn't mean, just really quiet at the time. I think he feels pressured to act like his brothers, take in that 'mean' persona."
Carol nodded, "Yeah he was pretty cool when we were at the concert. I mean — I guess that's one less asshole you have to deal with."
"Thankfully."
As Monday came around, and seeing as though her "blending in" tactic didn't work she decided to go back to dressing in her normal attire. She enjoyed wearing makeup, not a thick amount, but enough to not look so dead during the day. Coffee only helps so much, but tied together she looked presentable.
She entered Professor Invincible's class with a different attitude today, one that cared a tad less, "let's get this over with" motivation.
Susan sat down in the seat she was in the previous week and pulled her items out onto the desk. Per usual class started and Professor Invincible showed up right on time.
"Good morning class, pull out your class textbook and open up to page 20, we are going to review the chapter questions in the back."
He looked up to the people around him and spotted Susan looking completely different than the previous week.
