"Dean Jackson?"

Susan peaked into his office just a little before walking in.

Dean Jackson sat at his computer typing away. He looked up at Suzy with a smile.

"Miss Walters, please, come sit!"

She walked into the room further and took a sat in front of his desk, "I rushed over here as quickly as I could."

"I know, I'm really sorry it was so last minute but I knew you were eager to get out of some classes." He faced her folding his fingers together on top of his desk, "I know it's not all of them but I was able to find replacements for two of your classes, Professor Dangerous and Professor Thriller."

Suzy's hope deflated, "So my art and sociology class?"

"Yes, there's open availability that would give you the same credits you need to pass. Should I go ahead and switch them?"

"I—"

It was only her luck that the two bearable classes were the only ones that could be replaced.

"No."

"No?" Jackson raised a brow.

"I'm sorry for wasting your time but I can't give up those classes."

"May I ask why?"

"Professor Thriller and I actually had a class together. He showed me kindness, unlike the rest of them so far."

"And Professor Dangerous?"

Walters rolled her eyes, "My friend purposely took his class so I wouldn't have to alone. I don't feel right abandoning her."

He nodded, "I understand, but, I hope you're aware there are no other classes available to switch."

"I do," She stood to her feet gathering her items, "I appreciate the time you put in for me. I'm sorry it was wasted."

"My time helping a student is not wasted, Miss Walters. With the reputation of my brothers I urge you to come and see me whenever needed."

Suzy stopped and looked up at him, "Do you mean that?"

"Susan, if I may, my brothers have a reputation you and I are well aware of. Not only that but you're entire schedule is all five of them. If you ever need someone to talk to about your classes please don't hesitate to schedule an appointment with me. Please."

His sincere eyes gazed back at her. There was a moment of silence as she became lost in them.

"I — yeah — I'm sure Professor Winters is tired of hearing me complain. I appreciate the offer."

Dean Jackson turned pack to his computer. "Of course. I'll email Professor History of your tardiness. Grab the late slip at my secretary's desk on your way out.

Susan nodded and made her way out of the room. Just as he said the tardy slip was at the front desk. The secretary said goodbye without looking up from his computer.

After her talk with Dean Jackson things were looking up again. The head of the entire university was seemingly on her side for now which gave her the upper hand.

After entering Rainer* she walked along the echoing empty halls over to her room. The voices of professors lecturing muffled out of the doors as she passed each one. The noise stopped when approaching the last classroom.

The numbers matched the on the syllabus, but the silence was strange.

Susan opened the door slowly and peeked into the classroom. There were rows of chairs going back filled with students. Their heads were down and pens were up writing on pieces of paper. Her head turned to see Professor History at the desk also writing on paper with a pen.He wore a black turtleneck sweater which was appropriate for how cold this building was.
