A bit earlier today!💚
The whole Glade was grieving. I swallowed the lump in my throat. My throat still ached from where his hands had been, but it was nothing compared to the weight pressing down on me now. I didn't know where to go. And I didn't want to be alone.
Newt had disappeared after the banishing...probably mourning in his own way. Minho had lost his runner, and I figured he wanted space. Chuck was already asleep, curled up in his hammock. Gally was to busy crossing out Ben's name..
And Thomas..
Being around him would only make things look more suspicious. We had already spent too much time together, too many people noticing.
But I went to him anyway.
"Do you think he will make it?" He asked without looking at me.
"No." I answered, the response hurting more than I thought. "No one survives a night in the maze."
He didn't argue. Just kept starring ahead.
"Thomas..." I whispered. "Ben..Ben said it was my fault. And yours...He said he saw me."
Thomas finally looked at me.
"How can this be our fault?"
He blinked clearly thinking about it. "I..I don't know." He stuttered looking at the gras. "I don't know."
I signed standing up again.
"Just...just get some rest. You're gonna be fine. We're...we're gonna be fine." He whispered as I made my way towards the huts.
I nodded silently, leaving him alone.
As I reached my hut, I realized it was finally finished. But instead of going inside, my feet carried me somewhere else.
Gally opened the door before I could knock.
"Oh good", he muttered. "You're here."
I smiled sadly but then he shoved a heavy wooden box into my arms.
I stumbled, struggling to catch the weight. "What is that?"
"Your things." His voice was flat. "You're hut is finished. Move your stuff in."
I blinked at him. "Seriously?"
Nothing. Just his back as he stepped inside and shut the door in my face.
I stood there, breathing hard, my arms straining under the weight of the box. He had barely looked at me. Barely spoken to me. I didn't get it. I didn't get him.
But I was too tired to care right now.
I dragged the stupid box to my hut, tossed it to the side, and collapsed onto the hard bed. I thought exhaustion would knock me out instantly.
I was wrong.
I didn't close my eyes for one second.
I saw him. Ben was in the corner. Watching. Waiting. His eyes wild, his mouth twisting into something inhuman. I didn't move. Not. One. Muscle.
Then he lunged.
I screamed.
My body jolted, my heart pounding so hard I could barely breathe. I whipped my head around, eyes scanning every inch of the hut.
Empty again.
But it didn't feel empty. He will come back.
No. I couldn't do this.
I slipped out of my hut, barely breathing as I glanced over my shoulder. Every shadow felt wrong. Every noise made my skin crawl.
I made it to Gally's hut, opened the door without knocking, and stepped inside.
