"It's raining!" I shouted, jumping of the table.
The first drop hit my cheek, cool against my warm skin. Then another. And another.
I blinked up at the sky. For a second, I just stood there, letting it happen...letting it soak through my shirt, run down my arms. It smelled fresh, clean, like the air had been reset.
Around me, the other Gladers ran for cover, laughing and shouting as they rushed into the huts. But I didn't move. I closed my eyes and tilted my head back, letting the water roll down my face.
When I looked back toward the hut, Gally was there.
He leaned against the wooden post, one arm braced above his head, watching me with a smirk.
I grinned. "Come on."
He huffed a small laugh, shaking his head. "Don't wanna get sick."
"Oh, shut up." I rolled my eyes and grabbed his wrist, yanking him forward. He didn't fight it...just let me pull him into the rain, the water hitting his skin as he exhaled through his nose.
"See? Not so bad," I teased, stepping closer.
And I kissed him.
He didn't hesitate, didn't even seem surprised. He just leaned in, kissing me back, his hands finding my waist. The rain made everything colder, but his lips were warm, and I almost forgot where we were...forgot about everything except this.
Then I shoved him back.
"Come on," I said, grinning. "Show me one of your fighting moves so I don't end up like this again."
I pointed at the bruises still around my throat. Gally's expression darkened for half a second.
"Alright," he said, grinning. "Come here."
I barely had time to react before he moved, grabbing my wrist and twisting me around, his arm coming up across my neck in a loose hold.
"Now," he murmured against my ear, voice low, "if someone does this..what do you do?"
I smirked, looking over my shoulder.
"Well, I have some ideas..."
"Wrong answer. Maybe it works with me but not someone else."
I laughed, trying to elbow him, but he blocked it easily. He was close, his chest warm against my back, the rain still falling around us.
"Try again," he said, voice full with amusement.
I exhaled, gripping his arm, shifting my weight, and ducking under, twisting out of his hold. He let me go, stepping back.
"Better," he admitted.
I smirked. "Woah, I'm good."
He moved fast. One second I was standing there, the next I was pinned again, this time with my arm bent behind my back.
"You were saying?"
I huffed, laughing despite myself. "I hate you."
"Didn't look like it a few minutes ago."
I stomped on his foot, and he grunted, loosening his hold just enough for me to spin out.
"I win!"
Gally raised a brow. "Oh yeah?"
"Yeah."
He moved toward me again, and I laughed, ducking away.
And then...just like that..the rain stopped.
