We all went quiet. Even Minho, who had just walked in, stopped at the door.
"We searched," I said, quietly. "We searched the Maze. We didn't find anything. Only.. blood."
"I was up there," she mumbled. "On the wall. For so long. I saw Ben. And you. And Gally."
"What?" Minho stepped closer. "Ben's dead."
"I know." She opened her eyes again, barely. "But I saw him. It...it wasn't really him. I knew that. But he.. he talked to me. You talked to me. Gally too. You all showed me the way."
I exchanged a look with Newt. None of us knew what to say.
"They weren't real," she whispered. "But it felt real. I followed you."
My stomach twisted. I didn't know if I was supposed to comfort her or panic.
"You're just exhausted. You've been through hell." I said quietly.
Her eyes were already slipping closed again. "Still hurts..."
Newt handed me a cup of water. I lifted it to her lips and she drank, barely. Her hand trembled the whole time.
"I thought I was...was gonna die up there," she murmured.
"You didn't," I said, my voice shaking. "You made it back, (Y/n)."
She didn't answer. Her eyes fluttered closed, her breathing shallow again.
Newt touched my shoulder. "Let her rest."
Third Person's POV
It was night when the door opened with a loud thud.
Newt barely flinched...he knew who it was even before he stepped into the hut.Gally froze the second his eyes landed on the bed.
She was there.
But it didn't feel real.
She was barely breathing. Still. Colorless. Her face was all cuts and bruises, her lips dry and cracked, her leg thick with bandages. And she wasn't moving.
She wasn't moving.
He dropped to his knees beside the bed. His hands hovered uselessly over her blanket, fingers trembling, his throat tight with something he didn't have the words for.
He'd imagined this moment...dreamed it, begged for it. But in his head, she was smiling. In his head, she was laughing.
Not this. Not like this.
She looked dead.
No. No, she wasn't. She couldn't be. He watched the slight rise of her chest. It was real. She was here.
"(Y/n)..." he whispered. Her name barely escaped his throat.
He wanted hold her like he could keep her heart beating just by staying close enough. But she looked so fragile...more fragile than anything he'd ever seen...and he was too scared to even touch her.
Instead, with careful fingers, he reached for her cheek. Just one touch. Just to know she was warm.
She was.
Barely.
Behind him, Newt shifted. "She's been in and out," he said quietly, his voice hoarse. "Not really awake. In pain. Delirious. But... she made it back."
Gally's jaw clenched.
Newt stood up. Gally still hadn't looked at him.
"She fought her way back," Newt added, softer now.
