PRE-CHAPTER 7: THE BURDEN OF A SIDEKICK
Batman was always meant to be alone.
That’s how Bill Finger and Bob Kane first imagined him—a silent guardian, a shadow in the night, an untouchable force. But even legends can’t walk in the dark forever. And so, Robin was born.
The boy in the bright colors. The counterbalance to the Bat’s eternal gloom.
But Gotham doesn’t forgive weakness. And wearing that mask means more than just acrobatics and quips. It means standing at Batman’s side, learning the art of war in a city that never sleeps, never forgives, never stops testing you.
Robin isn’t just a name. It’s a legacy of those who dared to fight beside Gotham’s greatest warrior.
Some fell. Some walked away. Some became something else entirely.
But all of them learned the same truth.
To be Robin is to know you are never truly safe. You are a target. A weakness in Batman’s armor. And yet, you fight anyway. Because Gotham is pitiful, broken, drowning in corruption.
And if Batman is the storm, then Robin is the light that cuts through it.
But light can be manipulated.
Tonight, he is being watched. Studied. Moved like a piece on a board he didn't know he was playing on.
And when the game begins, he’ll have to ask himself—
Is he fighting to win?
Or just to prove that he isn’t someone else’s pawn?
