"Mmm." Red smiled as he entered the kitchen, taking in the heavenly scents of whatever Kitty and Liz were making. "Smells good. What are you two making?"
Liz turned to return his smile. "I'm just finishing up a lemon meringue pie."
"Yup, and there's a pot roast in the oven," Kitty added, pointing in the direction, "And my sister Paula is coming, and seven-layer salad."
All the food made Red even happier. "Ahh, seven layer—" He suddenly frowned. "Hey, wait a second."
"Wait. You didn't tell me Aunt Paula was coming," Liz said with a slight giggle, pausing from filling the pie.
"Kitty, I don't know if I like this." Red shook his head.
She turned to him, putting up her hands. "Red, now, please, be nice. We haven't seen her in almost six years.
"Yeah, not since she got arrested."
"No, no, no. Not arrested, detained."
Red let out a heavy sigh. "She showed up in the backseat of a police car with lights flashing. I had to tell the neighbors that she was the mayor of Cincinnati."
Kitty nodded, remembering the day as if it had been yesterday, but perked up when a car honked outside. With small claps, she started to jump with excitement. "There she is!"
"You wait." Red pointed a finger at her. "She's gonna hit me up for money like she always does."
"Aww, Daddy, be nice," Liz said, placing a hand on her mother's shoulder. "Let Mom be excited to see her sister."
"Fine. Just don't say I didn't warn ya." He shrugged before leading the way out the back door.
Liz's mouth immediately dropped open the second she stepped outside. Pulling into their driveway was a shiny new car—completely bright pink. "Oh my God. Is that a Thunderbird?"
Kitty gaped at the sight too, but jumped slightly when Paula drove too far and hit something in the garage.
"That's gonna cost me," Red muttered, shooting her a look.
A few seconds later, Paula jumped out of her car, dressed in an outfit as pink as her car. Holding out her arms, she cried, "Kitty!"
"Oh my God! Look at you!" Kitty gushed, running over to embrace her sister in a hug.
"I know, I know! I'm fabulous! Look at me!" Paula grinned.
"Oh my God!" Kitty repeated, pulling back to take in her outfit. "You're wearing stockings. Guys, she's wearing stockings. Oh, oh, and matching shoes!"
Paula clapped her hands together, her eyes falling onto Liz. "Oh my word. Is this little Elizabeth?"
"Hi, Auntie Paula," Liz greeted with a smile, stepping forward to hug her.
"Oh, look at you!" She pulled back, placing her hands on both of Liz's arms. "You're so grown up! And you're absolutely beautiful!"
Liz's face blushed slightly. "Thank you."
"Easily flustered too, I see," Paula joked, nudging her side slightly. She then turned to Red, extending her arms out once more. "Come on, Red. I know you're dying for a nibble."
Red managed to laugh. "Hi, Paula. You're so... pink."
"Well, sure, sure. I gotta match my brand new car." She turned to place her hand on the trunk. "Go ahead, pet her."
"God, I love Thunderbirds," Liz breathed, joining her dad in touching the car.
"Oh, you are just too cute! Here, have twenty bucks," Paula said, pulling the bill out of her purse.
