Chapter Twenty Nine

She didn’t know what made her come here, usually she wasn’t this desperate. Since he had ended things she had made herself perfectly clear that she didn’t agree with any part of what he did and he had made himself perfectly clear that he didn’t care. Usually she would just leave it at that, anything else would just seem desperate. But she knew that she would never be able to just leave it.

Maybe that was what brought her to the Salvatore Boarding house that night. She had been about to go to sleep when like always she thought of him. Thought of Damon. When she was lying down in her bed she thought that if perhaps she could prove to him that she trusted him no matter what he had done he would give up on trying to push her away.

As she drove over she had formulated a plan, she would ask him to come outside and talk which he would hopefully accept. She didn’t want anyone walking in on them and she was sure they would have an audience if they went inside.

Of course her plan depended on him answering the door instead of Stefan or Lexi or even Sadie.

Luck was on her side when the door opened to reveal Damon. He had a crystal class filled with an amber liquid in one hand and it looked as though he had drank a lot.

“What are you doing here Elena?” Damon asked, he sounded as though he was drunk. Was it possible for vampires to get drunk? Either way all the alcohol he must have drank probably made him at least semi-drunk. That could be a good thing, drunk Damon might be easier to persuade than sober Damon.

            “I want to talk.”

Damon stepped aside and gestured for her to come in but Elena shook her head, “why don’t we talk outside.”

After a moment of consideration Damon shrugged as if to say ‘why not?’. He downed the amber liquid in the glass in one gulp a set it on the table by the door before he followed her outside. She led him to the same stone bench they had talked on after their fight at the founders party.

“So Elena what did you come to talk to me about? Have you finally realized what a monster I am and come to tell me that you are done with me?”

Elena shook her head, “no I actually came to try and make you realize that no matter once you what were you are no longer the monster that you think you are.

Damon snorted making it obvious that he didn’t believe a single word.

“Do you remember that day, after you told me everything about vampires that I let you drink my blood? I told you to, I told you that I wanted you to. You could have easily killed me then, just drained all the blood from my body like I know you’ve done before but you didn’t. Is that really something a monster would do?”

He mumbled something incoherent and looked down at the ground.

“You know what else, if I told you I wanted you to drink my blood right now you wouldn’t do it. Because I know that you would never do anything to hurt me, and in order for you to keep this whole I don’t deserve you act up you need to act like you are a monster who doesn’t care.”

“How do you know that you’re right, that I wouldn’t just kill you?” Damon asked his voice sounding rough and harsh. However that didn’t quite reach his eyes which were wide and made him seem almost vulnerable.
