Chapter Thirty Eight

He opened his eyes and everything in front of him was blurry. It took awhile for it to come into focus and when he tried to move he found that his limbs were heavy, and felt as though they had been filled with lead.

It was pretty easy to piece together what had happened. The last thing he remembered was looking directly at Sadie who stood up with the help of Caroline who had thrown his brother down the hall into a wall. If he had left then he probably would have been able to get away before her spell had been able to take effect. But he didn’t doubt that if he had gotten away they would have only tracked him down.

Instead of running he made sure Elena was positioned so that when he fell unconscious she would land on top of him unhurt.

Judging by the pain coursing through his body and his inability to move his own limbs he must have been injected with vervain while passed out. And now he was waking up looking at a familiar ceiling, they had put him in the cellar. They weren’t going to chance him interfering with their plan to kill Klaus.

“It’s not nice to wake up, to find out that you are trapped in the cellar is it. Add not being able to move and the pain of vervain coursing through your veins you can’t be too happy. Be thankful they didn’t tie you up with ropes soaked in vervain, I suggested it but they figured you would be fine without it.” A familiar scratchy voice called.

“Katherine?” Damon asked moving his head to try and see where she was.

“Don’t bother looking Damon, I’m in the one next to you.” Katherine replied.

“Then how did you know I was awake?” Damon asked.

“I thought I heard something move and I figured Stefan would be the last one out of you two to wake up what with his animal diet and all.”

Damon chuckled weakly, “how long ago were they here?”

“Only a couple minutes. They said something about going to blondies before it was time. Why, you planning a grand escape so the witch can knock you out again?” Katherine asked. She started coughing weakly which made Damon remember that she hadn’t had blood since Elena talked to her. It was a miracle she was still able to talk at all.

“If I was to get out I would make sure she couldn’t knock me out again.” Damon replied.

“And how exactly would you do that?”

“That’s not something that you need to know Katherine. If you are so keen on talking why don’t we talk about how Elijah is trying to get Klaus to come to town. The thing is he is trying to break the curse and to do that he needs a vampire. Seeing as he hasn’t come to any of us asking us to go on a suicide mission and the fact that he knows exactly where you are I’m guessing that he’s planning on using you as Klaus bait.”

There was no reply. Damon smiled, it was bad enough that he was stuck in here without any way of getting out and he certainly didn’t need Katherine to rub it in.

Slowly he began to move, they must not have injected him with that much vervain because the effects were wearing off quickly. He wasn’t all that surprised though. The people who imprisoned him felt bad if the hurt a fly, there was no way they could properly subdue him properly and still sleep at night. He found himself wondering how they managed to even get this far.
