Link's P.O.V.
For the past couple of journeys, Alevina accompanied me along the way. She would give me battle tips and occasionally join me in battle. Her skills were truly amazing. The way she leapt through the air and snuck up upon her enemies was truly graceful.
The sky was dark as night fell upon us. Midna, Epona, and I sat in a desolate area of Hyrule field. I sat on a rock warming myself up. The fire was small and Alevina had left to gather some more fire wood.
I heard a yawn which turned out to belong to Midna. "Link, get some rest already. I'm sure Alevina will arrive safely."
I stared in the distance, but it was dark so I couldn't really see anything.
"You go ahead, Midna," I said as I rubbed my blue tired eyes.
"Link, I know that you want to wait for your crush to come back safely, but I assure you, she'll be fine," Midna teased.
My face heated up as she said the word 'crush'. I mean, it was slightly true. Alevina had a good personality. She was caring and helpful to those in need of assistance. And after spending so many journeys with her, who couldn't help but feel a tiny spark for her?
"She's a nice person, Midna, and she puts others before herself."
"Ugh, men," Midna retorted as she flew in the air and took a seat next to me.
"You know, speaking of people who put themselves before others, what ever happened to (Y/N)? I mean, she did offer us the last tear that set us on this journey in the first place," Midna questioned.
I suddenly thought of the wolf. Where was she indeed? The last time I saw her was when she had been lying on the floor, her crescent symbol bleeding. After that, when I had set out to find her again, she was gone.
Midna chuckled to herself. "Imagine if (Y/N) was actually a shape shifter?" Midna continued to laugh. But it was a serious possibility. (Y/N) did have magic, and shape shifting could definitely be one of them.
I was taken out of thought when I heard a loud thud. I turned my head to see that Alevina had returned with more fire wood. Midna vanished from her spot.
"You seemed to be deep in thought," she smiled warmly as she took a seat next to me.
She really did have a beautiful smile...
I nervously scratched the back of my head. "Just thinking of an old friend," I said. "She kind of reminds me of you, even if she is an animal."
Alevina looked at me, her (e/c) eyes glowing in the moonlight. I instantly brought my hands up and waved them in the air. I started stammering, "U-uh, n-no offense or anything. Comparing you to animal. I-it's j-just that you remind me of her. Selfless and caring for others."
The girl simply patted my shoulder and giggled, "There was never any offense in the first place, Link. May I know who this person, er, I mean animal is?"
I placed my hands over my knees and lowered my back to stare into the bright fire. "Her name is (Y/N). And she is a wolf."
Third Person P.O.V.
As Link said those words, (Y/N) stiffened. Luckily for her, Link was not able to see her reaction. This whole time, Link had thought he was talking to a whole other person named Alevina, when he was actually talking to the same person he met as a wolf.
(Y/N) clenched the collar of her cloak as the completely oblivious Link continued to speak of the wolf.
"I remember when I first met her. We were looking for something and she had it," he smiled as he remembered the wolf's selfless actions, "When she realized I was a shape shifter and that I needed some serious help, she gave the item to me."
Link suddenly felt guilt as he realized that he hadn't been as grateful as he should be to the wolf. She had suddenly disappeared with no trace left behind.
There was a long pause as the two sat in silence. The only thing that could be heard was the sound of crickets.
(Y/N) watched as Link suddenly placed his hands in his palms, muffling his speech.
"I'm such an idiot for not showing my gratitude sooner. She'd always accompany me on my quests but I never properly thanked her."
Link felt a huge pang of guilt. (Y/N) saw this and patted the blonde's back. She felt guilty as well. She was using him after all to help bring her parents back. Throughout the journey, she had been trying to gain Link's trust and friendship which she successfully did. (Y/N) knew it was wrong, but she needed to do it.
While (Y/N) patted Link's back trying to comfort him, something came over Link as he quickly pulled (Y/N) into an embrace. The girl's eyes widened as she cried softly, almost inaudible. Link was sad for being an ungrateful person, and (Y/N) cried at the fact that she was using poor Link.
As Link held onto (Y/N), he had unknowingly inhaled her scent. It was the scent of the woods, the forest. It was a sweet scent actually, with the mixed fragrances of a variety of berries, flowers, and the sweet tree leaves.
Link pulled away from the (h/c) haired female.
"I'm sorry for that," he whispered to her.
"It's fine," she smiled, all remnants of tears gone from her face. "You should get some rest," she recommended to Link.
He simply nodded and smiled. "Thanks for always being there, Alevina."
"No problem," she simply replied. She suppressed a new feeling she felt from within her. It was a feeling she didn't quite understand.
What she failed to realize was that it was a feeling of longing and disappointment. She didn't realize that she was disappointed that Link did not call her by her actual name. She was longing to hear him actually say her real name, but, she also longed for her family.
But beneath all the feelings of longing and disappointment, was yet another feeling that (Y/N) could not sense yet. She was slowly falling for the humble warrior that had fallen asleep on the ground right beside her.
