“You are going to go back into the bar and forget all of this. You never saw me or her and you never left your drink. Do you understand?” Damon asked.
“I understand,” Alaric replied with the same voice he had used in the bar.
Without another word or a backwards glance he got to his feet and began to walk back to the main street leaving Elena and Damon alone behind him.
In the short time it had taken Damon to heal Alaric and freshly compel him Elena and wiped all the traces of blood off her face. She looked shaken up but she couldn’t hide the small smile that lit her face up.
“Why are you smiling?” Damon asked.
The question only made Elena’s smile bigger, “I’m done. I drank blood and I didn’t lose control. Now I can just drink blood bags and not have to worry about hurting anyone.”
Damon raised his eyebrows skeptically and Elena sighed.
“And then there’s the real reason. I drank your blood that night because I couldn’t imagine leaving everyone I loved behind. If I had turned into a bloodthirsty monster then that would have been worse than if I had just died. This means that I can still be around them, not to mention now that I’m a vampire we don’t just have a lifetime to spend together,” it only took a step to close the distance between them and when she spoke again her breath was hot against his face, “we have forever.”
Her lips felt natural against his and it was like their bodies were two matching puzzles pieces the way they fit together so perfectly. Even though they kissed the same way they had always kissed this time it felt different. It was almost as if that now that she was a vampire and they were the same neither of them had to hold back, now they could give each other everything.
“Thank you Damon,” she whispered against his lips.
“I love you Elena.” Damon whispered back.
“And I love you.”
The sunlight filtered through the tree’s and down onto one of the few small area’s not completely covered by trees and bushes. The moss under the thick bed of clovers covered the hard ground and cushioned the body that lay upon it.
He had been laying there for awhile now, his body spattered in mud and his breathes deep. The sound of approaching footsteps and the appearance of another man did nothing to wake him.
Finally he stirred when the other man who was dressed in a dark crisp suit threw clothes over his naked body.
“The full moon came and went and yet you remained a wolf,” Elijah said when he noticed his brother began to stir. Unlike Klaus who looked like he belonged in the forest Elijah looked completely unnatural there, though he gave no sign that he was uncomfortable.
“So I can control the transformation,” Klaus said as he slowly sat up, “that’s nice to know.”
Elijah watched in silence as Klaus slowly dressed himself and offered his younger brother a hand to help him get to his feet. Since Klaus had transformed after the curse was broken Elijah had been following him. He was both waiting for his brother to turn back into a man and cleaning up the mess that he left in his wake.
“There’s something on your mind brother, I know there is,” Klaus said not even looking at Elijah. He was too busy looking at the tree’s that surrounded him remembering how it had looked that night through the eyes of a wolf.
