End of Flashback
Caeus' P.O.V.
Other than the pendant given to me, I had a small velvet pouch snuggled far into my cloak's pocket. They had told me to give this to Link for some reason, and it was a reason I would not question. They knew what they were doing, and I was their pawn.
Not that it bothered me or anything. I was willing to help them and go against the new ruler if it meant saving the Kingdom and the young boy I once knew.
But, I remember the moment I saw her.
Midna.
Her eyes were full of sorrow and I pitied her dearly. Her kingdom of Twilight that she had worked so hard for, was taken from her not only once, but twice. It was a smack in the face.
Mockery.
A statement to say she wasn't capable.
That she was weak.
But anyone who knew her before would say otherwise. And seeing her like that only acted as fuel to help overthrow Link.
The only thing they had told me when I received the small pouch was, "Tell him you found this near us." And that was it. No further instructions whatsoever. They told me after giving this object to Link, our plan would unfold itself.
I did the usual task of creating the portal and entering the world of Twilight. The action was so repetitive but it was really the only way to enter.
I don't think he was realizing it, but Link was gradually rebuilding the kindgom Midna was left to. Perhaps it was unintentional or perhaps it was because he was secretly compensating for all the trouble he caused. And both the Shadow and the Light were capable of that.
I entered through the palace to meet Link at the usual ledge. It were as if he had nothing to do but think and ponder and plan. I guess in some cases, it was understandable.
If one were to put themselves in his own shoes, they would be clueless as well. What could someone possibly do with so much power gathered in only one moment? Ruling the world would definitely come first, but what would you do afterwards?
"Sir Link, the (L/N) family was observed at a safe distance, and I can assure you that they were not bothered in anyway by your creatures."
I awaited his response.
"Very good, Twili-man. That's all I have for you today. Tomorrow, it will be the same thing. Now go to headquarters."
To say this job was entertaining, would be a lie. To say I felt useful would be an even bigger lie. This job of being Link's trusted visor was really nothing special; it was only a mere title. I felt useless in this job and position. All Link ever had me do was act as chaperone to his creatures and watch over those at the Sacred Grove.
At least with those at the Sacred Grove, I felt I had a use and a purpose. They considered me close, even if we had barely met. They had a set goal in mind, while Link did not. And one thing that differentiated them the most?
Their future goals of the Kingdom.
Then I remembered the small velvet bag.
"Sir Link, before I leave your presence, I actually have one last thing."
"What is it, Twili-man?"
I pulled the small velvet object from my cloak making sure the pendant stayed hidden and approached the dark figure. "I found this near them."
He turned around to look at the small bag resting within my palm. And without question, he took the bag. "I will look at this later, Twili-man. Did you look at it yourself?"
Remember, don't say anything else, Caeus. You were asked to simply hand it to him with no further instructions.
I nodded a small 'no' and left his presence and retreated to the headquarters to see Link's next coordinates for attack. Who knew how long it would be before he actually opened the tiny bag? What if that object put me in trouble?
No. I don't believe so. They wouldn't do that because their intentions meant well. They need me just as much as I need them.
The other Twili lowered their heads in respect as I passed them through the hallway. I had told them once before to not do so because I was of the same status as they were, but Link would not tolerate it.
He said something about being better than the rest. And that superiority must be acknowledged. But, his ruling methods were wrong, all wrong. I don't really know how much more all of us Twili folk could take which is why I didn't hesitate when I found (Y/N).
The family and Midna had told me back at the Sacred Grove was that a mere kiss was needed to remove all the darkness from his heart. A single certain blow to the heart and a kiss.
It all made sense now. It was no wonder why the Light was so worried about getting out of the situation alive because he already knew the solution. It could cost him his life if (Y/N) didn't make the right moves.
She could either save him or kill him, but it was a risk she was willing to take just to save the entirety of the kingdom from the Twilight that only belonged in this part of the world.
They told me the other option of how (Y/N) could eventually have the power transferred back to her if it wasn't removed completely from Link's system. But still, a part of me was skeptical. A spell usually doesn't work that way. There's often consequences on both sides of the spectrum.
So, at the moment they told me, I asked for a book as to reference their whole solution, but according to them, the pages were lost a long time ago and they were lucky to even remotely remember such details. Finding those pages was my second quest, done on my own will.
As someone who's been living for hundreds of years, I knew very well how spells worked and I couldn't help but ignore the feeling that waas tearing at my gut. Perhaps, I was just over thinking this whole thing, but, I wasn't going to let this pass. I offered to assist that family, and assist I shall. It wasn't on my itinerary to search for the missing pages of the book, but I made it my duty.
Who knows what vital information those pages held?
"What is the next designated location, my fellow people of Twilight?" I asked as I entered headquarters. One of them made the usual noise and pointed to a specific location on the map, onto which my gaze traveled.
"Tomorrow, we will send few to the oasis. There is not too much life around there so it shouldn't be too difficult. I will ask our ruler where else he would like to strike next," I instructed.
I hated doing this, attacking others. It made us Twili folk look like monsters to the outside world. All we ever really wanted was to remain to ourselves, but now, Link seems to be unleashing us, against our will.
Whatever was in that little pouch, I hope it starts acting soon.
But the closer we get to the day the family and Midna come back to the world of Twilight, the less time I have to find those pages.
