You were reading in your office with Octavious prowling around when you got a strange feeling as if you were being watched. It wasn't unpleasant, only a tad peculiar because you were used to stares and whispers in public, but this was different.

You lazily sat down the book and stood with your nightgown flowing around you. It was understandably out-of-character for you to be wearing such feminine apparel, but you found them to be exceedingly comfortable.

You walked barefoot through your office with your skin chilling against the cold flooring. Octavious followed closely behind as you headed to your chambers through the vacant, candle-lit hallways. The servants you could count on one hand were in their beds and Claude was out running errands as per usual.

The moonlight streamed through the bay windows and helped illuminate your way through the lonely manor until you arrived at your bedroom and went inside quietly. There were candles scattered around the room, letting off the perfect amount of light with a subtle ominous touch.

You saw him before he realized you did as you sat on the edge of your bed and turned directly toward him without missing a beat. Octavious, who had followed you the whole time, let out a threatening hiss from his spot in front of the door.

"Hush," you warned gently, diverting your attention back to the figure. "What do you want, Sebastian?"

Sebastian emerged from the darkness and into the light, contrary to his natural desires. You watched as he went to stand in front of you, still dressed in his immaculate uniform.

"You know why I'm here," he said lowly. Sebastian's persona as the perfect butler was gone as his eyes glowed red and a small mixture of pink. "You've always known."

"Have I?" you challenged calmly.

"Yes, I'm sure of it," he replied sternly. "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

You let out a shaky breath and coughed away the lump in your throat. "Because I wasn't sure of it. There are legends and--"

"No!" Sebastian shouted, but you didn't flinch. Instead, you clenched your teeth in irritation. "You're lying!"

"You didn't come when I called!" you screamed, standing and approaching him. "I called out for you in my time of need and you weren't there! You know who was? Claude! That idiot came and tried to convince me he was you, but I told him off because--" you started crying now "--because I would know you right when I saw you! And I did but you didn't know when you saw me!"

You were trembling and your hands were balled into fists. You looked down at the marking on your arm--Claude's--and your eyes traveled to the pentagram on your opposite arm--the one that was identical to Sebastian's and the one you concealed for so long.

"My heart broke when you looked at me with such disdain as if I were such a lowlife human," you whispered, tears streaming down your cheeks. "I worked so hard and have been so miserable because I got chained to Claude instead of you. Do you understand how that feels?"

Sebastian was no longer angry as his heart ached to think of what had been happening to you behind closed doors. He hadn't wanted someone like you for so long, but now that he had you, he didn't want to give you up.

"I'm sorry," Sebastian muttered, unsure of whether to hug you or leave you alone. "I should have searched, but you have to understand--"

"You didn't want me," you interrupted, wiping away the tears. "I'm used to that, trust me. No one has ever wanted me around them for as long as I've been on my own. It's like they think they're going to catch a disease if they associate with me."

Sebastian was taken aback by your assumption. "I didn't know you were, essentially, my mate, but I fell for you anyway. For the last couple of months, you have been the only thing that has been on my mind, can't you see? I fell for you naturally, that's what matters. I want you, (Y/N). I want all of you."

"You're a demon," you spat hastily. "How can you say such sentiment when you've never felt longing for anything but a soul?"

"Because you showed me, without knowing, what it is like," he revealed gently. "Do you understand how insane I've been going thinking I've fallen for a mere human? But you're not. You're the one I've been wanting for so long, and that makes sense because I've been so drawn to you."

You swallowed back more tears and walked forward until there was only a sheet of paper of length between your chests.

"It's too late, Sebastian," you mumbled, finally coming to your senses. "I'm bound to Claude and he will kill me in only a few years time. You should have came when I called."

"I'm sorry," he repeated, genuinely remorseful of his actions. "But I couldn't. Ciel called upon me only days before you and I couldn't abandon my contract."

"And you can't now," you said. "There's no way around what fate has done to us. This is how it was supposed to be. I will die and you will move on."

Sebastian couldn't explain how he felt knowing the only being specially picked out for him may die because of his recklessness. He cared for you so deeply and finding out you were his mate sealed the deal for him, yet now there was something permanently standing in his path to happiness.

"Did it never bother you to know you were bound to a demon?"

You shook your head confidently. "Never. I knew these things were destined, and after meeting you, I was so grateful you weren't an asshole. You were so incredibly charming and kind even if it was fake, because under than, I saw something better."

"I never pretended to be something I wasn't around you, my dear," Sebastian claimed. "I felt like I wanted to be extra cautious around you, yes, but I also wanted to be kind and courteous. Now I know why that was."

You closed your eyes and rested your forehead against Sebastian's chest, then stepped away with an apologetic expression because you knew none of this could last. Was it really too late? Perhaps. But would that stop Sebastian from trying to capture your heart and soul? Absolutely not.

There was so much the two of you had been through together without the mutual knowledge of the bond you shared. He helped you so much and you did the same for him. Sebastian couldn't give up something like that even if he didn't want it in the first place because now that he has found the one, he wants to keep you as close to him as possible.
