The day started out normal enough. Josh and I went to LA Fitness at 9. We ran about three miles and lifted some weights. We got smoothies. We went home.

It was normal.

Until Josh got a call from Justice.

"He...he what? No, that can't be ri—"

I peered into the kitchen. "Josh? What's going on?" He shook his head.

"Okay." A pause. "Okay." Another pause. "What's she going to do?" A long pause.

My senses prickled at she. I hoped it wasn't [y/n]. I hoped nothing had happened.

"Okay. Thank you for letting us know." He hung up.

"What was it?" I asked nervously.

"It's [y/n]. Something's happened with her and Sam," he explained slowly, choosing his words wisely.

I felt heat rush to my feet. "Is she okay? Did he do anything? I'll—"

"Tyler, calm down. She's fine. It's just..." He ran a hand through his hair. "He's been being a bit possessive, and yesterday..."

I waited. He tried to elaborate. "What?"

"Yesterday he pushed her to stay at his place longer than usual. He was just being a little forceful, that's all," Josh explained.

I shook my head. "No. She's been through enough, she doesn't need him to—"

"Tyler," Josh stopped me. "She's okay. They talked. He gets it. It's okay."

I still shook my head. "Still, lately... she hasn't been acting herself. She used to be sarcastic and nonchalant, like she didn't care what other people thought. Lately she's been so... reclusive."

Josh shrugged. "I'm sure she's fine. We only met her a couple months ago. Maybe she's always like this."

I didn't think so, but I didn't say anything.

"You're just anxious about it, which is okay. You're looking out for her. But, Ty, you've got to realize that it isn't your job to look out for her," Josh explained. I looked up at him. "It's Sam's job."

That left a bad feeling in my stomach.
