"It can not be that great!" Lia argued for the fourth time.
"Why can't I stop smiling then?" I argued back.
She looked at my face splitting smile and threw her hands in the air.
"Fine! I believe you! Geez! I'd probably have the same expression on my face if I hadn't had to wait an hour out in the cold." Lia griped.
"You were not out there for an hour!" I said.
Lia has a thing for dramatics.
"I was too!" She argued back.
I shook my head, thinking it was best not to argue with her.
"He really is an amazing guy, Lia." I told her with an even bigger smile.
She looked at me, her head tilting side ways as she smirked.
"What's so great about him?" Lia asked.
"He listens to me, he cares. He's the most considerate guy I've ever been with. He'll call me randomly just to tell me he's thinking about me and can't wait to see me. He knows how to make me laugh, he holds my hand wherever we go. He's not ashamed to be seen with me. Not like with Br--," I stopped talking.
"Like with Brian?" Lia said softly.
I looked up at her and couldn't help the tears that came to my eyes.
"Honey, what's wrong?" Lia asked urgently, coming closer and pulling me into her arms.
"Every time Luke does something nice, or something I wasn't expecting him to do, I can't help but think of all the shit that Brian did to hurt me. How he'd fuck me and leave right after. Luke doesn't move an inch from me after we make love. He holds me close, whispers how much he cares about me and how he won't ever hurt me. Brian never once gave a shit about how I felt. He just used to me to fulfill his needs and then he'd leave. He made me feel so low and dirty, and worthless. Luke never makes me feel jealous, or sad, or angry. It's so effortless to be with him. I never had that before. And I feel like now that things are going so good for me, something bad is going to happen." I told Lia, wiping the tears away.
"Evalice Sullivan, you listen to me right now. Nothing bad is going to happen between you and Luke. Do you hear me?" Lia said firmly, making me look at her.
I looked her in the eyes, and after a moment, I nodded too.
We sat there quietly, just enjoying each other's company when there was a knock on my door.
I looked over at the door and saw Lia start to smile.
"Is that Prince Charming?" Lia asked with a grin.
I started giggling and I stood up to open the door.
"Matt?" I asked in confusion.
Matt's POV
Eve looked at me in confusion, probably wondering what the hell I was doing here.
"Hey Matt." She said, a smile making it's way across her face.
"Hey Eve. You got a minute?" I asked her.
"Yeah of course. Me and Lia are just hanging out." Eve said, moving to the side so I could come in.
"Have you been crying?" I asked her, noticing her red and puffy eyes.
"No. My allergies are just kicking up." She said quickly.
I nodded, not wanting to argue with her.
"Hey Lia. How's it going?" I asked her.
"Good Matt. Glad you're here. I was just heading out." Lia said.
I smiled, not wanting to have this conversation with her here anyway.
"I'll see you later, babe." Lia said, coming over and giving Eve a hug, and then me.
I pushed the door closed once she walked outside and I leaned back against it.
"What's up, Matt? Is everything okay?" She asked me.
"Well, a few days ago, if you would've asked me that, I would've said yes. Now, not so good." I told her honestly.
She took my hand and led me over to the couch and we sat down.
"Matt tell me what's wrong." Eve said desperately.
"My best friends baby sister is fucking one of my other best friends. Yeah, I'd say something is seriously wrong." I told her in an angry voice.
Eve's eyes widened in horror.
