Spark in the Dark

Juice stood quickly and faced Dawn. Shawn rounded the island to stand in front of her.

"Who's who?" Shawn said.

"That guy right there?"

"What guy? I don't see a guy."

"You don't see that guy standing right there?"

"Nope. Guess you're a lot drunker than you thought."

"I'm going to sleep now," Dawn said and passed out right where she stood. Shawn was barely able to catch her.

"I can't believe that worked," Juice said.

"Me neither," Shawn admitted.

Juice stepped forward and took Dawn from Shawn. "I'll put her upstairs."

"Thanks."

Shawn followed him up the steps and set the water bottle and pills down while Juice set Dawn on the bed. They walked out of the room and shut the door.

"I take back what I said about you being a good sister," Juice told her.

"What? Why?"

"You just lied to her about the existence of a human being."

"The truth is for sober people," Shawn told him bluntly. "You ready for bed?"

Juice shook his head. "No, but I don't think what I had in mind is happening tonight."

"You can still go," Shawn offered.

"I'm not going anywhere. Let's just watch tv until we get tired."

They went into Shawn's room and Juice shut the door. They normally slept with it open, but it seemed like a good idea with Dawn passed out across the hall. Juice got mostly undressed and they both settled into her bed to watch tv.

"This is the longest we've gone without having sex, isn't it?" Shawn asked after they had been watching tv for awhile.

"Second longest. First was when I was in Indian Hills," Juice answered with no hesitation.

"You keep track?" Shawn asked, surprised.

"I'm a man. Of course I do."

Shawn bit her lip. "Did you lock the door?"

"Yes," Juice answered a little too quickly.

"As long as we're quiet it's ok, right?"

"Oh, thank God," Juice said and rolled over in bed to kiss her.

Juice was startled awake by the sound of water running coming from Shawn's bathroom. He looked over and saw Shawn was still in bed next to him. Then he remembered that Dawn had shown up the night before.

He thought about the first time he ever saw Shawn. How he hadn't thought she looked anything like Tig. Even the picture of Shawn's mother confirmed that she looked more like her mom. But Dawn and Shawn looked enough alike that there was no denying they were sisters, so Shawn must have gotten something from Tig.

The sound of water shutting off and the bathroom door opening pulled Juice from his thoughts and he listened as Dawn went down the steps and out the front door. Shawn had been right about her leaving before she got up. He turned in bed to put his arm around Shawn and pulled her close. He shut his eyes and decided to go back to sleep.

They ended up sleeping in that morning. Once awake, Shawn made pancakes for breakfast before Chibs called Juice's cell looking for him. Juice got dressed and was getting ready to leave.

"What are you doing today?" Juice asked her.

Shawn shrugged. "Not sure. I guess I could go to work, but I don't feel like it. Luanne won't care if I say I need another day to recoup from being in jail."

"You could always just quit."

"Oh, yeah. That would be fine. If worse comes to worse I can always become a hooker," Shawn joked.

"Only if I'm your only client," Juice told her seriously.

"I think that's called a Sugar Daddy." Juice smiled broadly. "You'd love that, wouldn't you? I can see you using it against my dad somehow."

"You bet," Juice laughed. "Hey, I almost forgot. Abel is coming home today."

"How could you forget to tell me that? Why didn't Jax call me?"

"Not sure. There's a party at his place tonight for it."

"So, this mean tomorrow you want to tell Tig?"

"Is it weird I am dreading something I actually want to do?"

"Normally I would say yes, but I get what you mean," Shawn told him honestly.

"Only one more night, babe."

She reached up to kiss him. "One more night."
