Shawn put the bottle in the fridge and walked back over to the front door as there was more knocking. Shawn introduced Nero to her sister, not that Fawn really noticed. She stepped inside with a big smile for Ally.
"Hi, princess!" Fawn said to Ally. The nickname made Shawn's nose wrinkle and Fawn noticed. "Oh, sorry. Uh... Hi, sweetheart?"
"Better," Shawn said with a nod. "There's a bottle in the fridge. If she gets hungry just put it in the warmer on the counter and turn it on."
"You got it," Fawn said absentmindedly. She was too busy playing with Ally.
"Fawn," Shawn said sternly.
"I heard you. Go. Quit being a worry wart. We have some auntie, niece bonding time to do."
Shawn kissed Ally's head and said goodbye before leaving with Nero. They got into Nero's car and he started driving.
"So, what was with the princess thing?" Nero asked.
"Fawn and Dawn used to call me that sarcastically. Now it's like nails on a chalkboard to me."
"So the three of you were tight as kids, huh?" He said sarcastically.
"Oh, yeah," Shawn agreed, playing along.
"You're all Tig's kids, right? Different moms?"
"Right. They have the same Mom. I'm the odd one out."
"Where's your mom at? If you don't mind me asking."
"She passed away when I was about Thomas's age," Shawn told him. Then she got quiet. It was hard knowing exactly what Thomas was going to have to go through now that Tara was gone. Abel would be able to have some memories of her. To Thomas, she would be just a person in a photograph.
"Must have been rough," Nero observed. "It's a good thing those boys have you around to help them."
"Having Tara around would have been better."
Nero didn't say much the rest of the way. Once he pulled into the parking lot of the school, they got out and began walking towards the building.
"Who do we say we are?" Nero asked.
"I don't know. The nanny and the gardener?"
Nero looked at her, both shocked and amused. "I'm going to pretend you didn't even say that."
They were given a tour of the school and talked to the woman who would eventually be Abel's teacher. As she was showing them different things around her classroom, Nero's phone rang and he excused himself to answer it. He came back right as they were wrapping things up. They shook hands with the teacher before leaving.
"Would you mind making a quick stop before going home?" Nero asked as they walked to the car.
"Where at?"
"I got to go to Burosky's."
"Really?" Shawn asked.
"He runs a bakery. I'll buy you a cookie."
She sighed. "Fine. Better be a big one."
Nero drove them there and parked on the street. They walked towards the store front where Nero pointed out the outside tables and chairs and let her know she could stay outside. Before sitting down, Shawn looked inside the store and saw a member of another MC, the Mayans. They weren't always on good terms with the Sons and Shawn wondered if she should even be there. She looked at Nero with wide eyes.
"Sorry," he told her.
"Maybe you better get me an iced coffee, too."
Nero laughed. "Sure. No problem."
