"Witcher, which side of the war are you on?" You called out across the river to the man who stood on the other side.
He simply shrugged in response. "I couldn't care less."
"Well, that's good. See, the blood you're smelling is from this courier here." You pointed behind the bush to the body that laid there. "Radovid sent me to kill him and collect... information. Now, I must dispose of this fellow before anyone else stumbles upon me. I've heard of you, White Wolf. Radovid seems to think highly of you, as high as that ass can think, anyways."
"Surprised he speaks of me at all."
"Well, it's hard not to talk of the most popular witcher." You grinned slightly.
"Why are you telling me this?"
You sighed. "I'm not sure. I suppose I felt we could relate to some degree. We both take up contracts to kill things, though that's relatively different in itself. But we also travel the world, mostly alone, simply going where the coin can take us. I know it's a lonely life, I'm sure you've felt the same at some point or another."
"Is there a point to all of this?"
"Yes, witcher. Don't be so impatient. You're the first live and healthy person I've spoken to in a while, I have much to say." You laughed slightly, meaning for your tone to be lighthearted, but you weren't sure Geralt had caught on. Regardless, you continued to explain yourself. "Listen, let me buy you a drink. I won't kill you, promise. I just want someone to talk to. Honest."
He seemed uncertain, but after glancing you over, Geralt agreed. "Fine. One drink won't hurt. Going to the village anyways."
"Brilliant. Eh.. Just let me deal with this right quick. There's a bridge down the way, wait for me there. Or don't, if you change your mind."
Geralt nodded briefly before continuing down the river in the direction of the village. You returned your attention to the courier. "I suppose this is goodbye, then." You muttered, quickly dismembering the corpse and tossing the pieces into the water. You hoped that drowners, fish, and mother nature would take care of the rest. You rinsed your hands off in the water before collecting your things and moving briskly down the bank towards the bridge.
You were quite delighted to find that Geralt had waited for you at the bridge. He leaned against the railing, a bloody bag at his feet. The body of the beast lay off the path, lazily tossed in a bush.
"Decided its head was proof enough." Geralt grunted, kicking the bag lightly.
"Good idea." You agreed, wondering why he decided to drag it to begin with. "Shall we go?"
"Sure."
You silently walked through the forest, feeling awkward for the first time in a long time. The silence was driving you crazy, what was the point of a companion if you weren't going to speak?
Finally, you cleared your throat. "So..."
Geralt simply looked at you, waiting for you to continue speaking.
"Uh, do you need to drop that off first? I don't mind making a detour.. Or waiting.. Or whatever."
"Depends. How long do you have in town?"
"Oh, well. Radovid shouldn't be expecting me for a couple more days. I've got plenty of time to spare."
"Then I'll deliver this."
You followed Geralt through the village to a small house. He went inside while you remained out in the path, kicking at a rock.
"What's wrong with me?" You asked yourself. "It's so easy to talk to dead people, or people begging for their lives. Fun, even. This is just hard.. Why am I sweaty.. Fucking bugs sticking to me.."
