You had known Jaskier for a few years. There were many occasions when innocent flirting turned into intense, heat-filled nights, yet you never labeled your relationship with the bard. He was your friend, your occasional lover, and your lifeline.

Jaskier had been there for you through thick and thin. When you were being hunted by a king, he was at your side. When your heart was broken by a man from your past, Jaskier let you cry in his arms for many nights. He would sing you soft songs when you had trouble sleeping. He cracked jokes when he noticed the frown on your face and the furrow of your brows. When you were injured in a duel, Jaskier sat at your bedside and tended to your wounds. There were many times when you wanted to admit your love for him, to tell him how you wanted him to be yours forever, but you were too afraid. You feared rejection, heartbreak. You were scared that once you were partners, one of you would be killed and the other would be stranded alone. You worried that he would love you temporarily until he found the person who could hold his heart forever. Many scenarios prevented you from expressing your feelings for the man.

You were a warrior for hire, he was a bard. You made the adventures and he sang the tale. You wanted more from him, but you wouldn't dare ask. You claimed to yourself that you didn't want to cage a free spirit, but maybe... you were afraid to release yours.

Your entire tale was a twist of love and passion, blood and glory, wounds that could never fully heal, and hearts that would ultimately break. After all, this was the beginning of the end.

It was an ordinary day, the sun was shining, a gentle breeze blew through your hair. You breathed in the warm air, filling your lungs before releasing it in a sigh. You were leaned against the outer wall of the tavern, waiting for your companion to come out with his things. It was time to move to the next village.

You listened to Jaskier's voice, muffled by the walls that separated you. He finally exited the tavern, a bright smile on his face as he approached.

"Where are we off to now?" He asked, adjusting his knapsack and his lute.

You shrugged, walking over to your horses. "Wherever this road takes us, I suppose."

"Ah, adventure. No plans, no problem." Jaskier chuckled as he mounted his horse. You followed, carefully climbing onto your own steed before directing it onto the main road. With a flick of the reigns, you were off to wander the world yet again.

Several hours later you had made camp off the side of the road. You were worried about bandits and wild dogs, but Jaskier seemed unconcerned. He strummed a tune on his lute and sang softly, his voice melding in with the crackle of the fire. Your eyes traveled from his fingers to his lips, enchanted by his song. You noticed the smirk grow across his face as you stared, heat flushing your cheeks as you refused to look away. His eyes were low and his face glowed handsomely in the firelight, you couldn't dare look away.

The moment was cut short by thundering hooves. You leapt to your feet, drawing your sword as the sounds approached. Whooping and hollering people drew closer, finally appearing through the trees.

"Bandits." You hissed. There was a horde of the bastards, far too many for you to fend off on your own. "Get to the horses. Now!"

Jaskier quickly gathered his things and jumped onto his horse. You stomped out the fire, hoping to the gods that the bandits hadn't spotted your camp. Grabbing the necessities, you mounted your horse and led Jaskier away from the group. The horses were sprinting through the woods, away from the path in hopes of putting distance between you and the bandits. You were led by moonlight shining through the canopy overhead.
