Speechless (Jaskier x Reader)

Start from the beginning

"(Y/N). Is that your name?" He asked, earning a delighted nod from you. "Beautiful. You should come with me, I have a friend I'd like you to meet."

You shrugged at the idea, letting Jaskier help you to your feet as he began to lead you back towards Geralt. You stopped him when he tried to enter the main street. Pointing to the deserted alleys, he seemed to catch your drift.

"Ah, that would be smart." He chuckled. "Wouldn't want to be chased again."

He grasped your hand, "Tug if you need my attention." The gesture made you blush, no one had made such thoughtful considerations for you before.

You arrived to the tavern inn where Jaskier and Geralt were staying, your hand still clutched in Jaskier's. Upon entering, you tugged Jaskier's hand, then pointed towards the bar where the barmaid poured drinks. You made a drinking motion with your hand, hoping Jaskier would understand.

"Thirsty, (Y/N)?"

You nodded.

"Hm. What would you like? Water, ale?"

You showed him one finger in response, signaling the first option he offered.

"Water?" He confirmed when you nodded again. You started to pull out your coin purse, but he stopped you with a smile. "Nonsense, you think I would let my savior buy their own drink?"

He left you for a moment, then returned with a tankard of cool water. You sent him an appreciative smile and bowed your head in thanks. Jaskier lightly gripped your wrist, slipping his hand back into yours as he walked you up the stairs.

"We're about to meet with my good friend Geralt and find out why the hell he made those guards chase me." Jaskier's words were probably meant to be annoyed but he simply sounded enthusiastic about you meeting this Geralt fellow.

You followed Jaskier into a room, where he dropped your hand, but his touch lingered on your skin. You weren't sure why, but you wanted him to continue holding it.

"Geralt! There you are, I hope you found what you needed." Jaskier complained. "I would be in prison, or worse, if my dear (Y/N) here didn't save me."

Geralt rolled his eyes. "I would've helped you. I came looking but you were already gone."

"So you just returned to the inn!? You didn't scour the place looking for me!?"

"I figured you would return. And you did."

Jaskier scoffed dramatically, puffing his chest as he paced the room. "That's terribly rude, Geralt. Well, at least be polite to my guest. Unlike you, (Y/N) actually cared for my well being and helped me!"

Geralt smiled at Jaskier's dramatics, but kept it out of his view. He turned his attention to you, obliging Jaskier as he introduced himself. "Hello, (Y/N). Thank you for saving my idiot bard. I'm Geralt."

You waved your hand in greeting, then bowed your head again, accepting the thanks that Geralt offered.

"Oh, my bad. Yes, (Y/N) cannot speak." Jaskier explained, scratching his neck in embarrassment. "We had a fun game of charades while we were being chased." You smiled in response, bobbing your head at his statement. "Don't let that fool you, (Y/N) is quite sharp."

You waved away his statement, a dust of pink crossing your cheeks.

"Anyways, she helped me, so I thought I would bring her back here."

"Why?" Geralt questioned, not sounding rude, but just curious as to why Jaskier wanted to bring you back. Jaskier seemed shocked by the question, then fell into his thoughts.

He smiled sheepishly. "I didn't really think about it.. Though I do have some coin here to pay for your help."

You shook your head, refusing to accept the coin. You made a writing motion, dragging it across the palm of your other hand. Geralt slipped a piece of parchment, a quill, and ink well your way. You dipped the quill in ink and quickly scribbled out a note.

"Messing with the guards was payment enough." You wrote with a grin.

"Are they who took your tongue?" Jaskier asked.

You bent over the parchment again, this time writing your story. "Yes. Some years ago. I spoke out against a nobleman for how he treated the poor and his servants. He had the guards collect me and take my tongue as punishment."

"Ah, I'm sorry."

You shrugged, there was nothing that could be done about it now. You scribbled out some more words, lifting the paper for both men to see. "Let's drink?"

Jaskier turned to Geralt with a large grin.

***

You watched as Jaskier danced his way around the room, singing his heart out for the other tavern-goers. Many people were up, dancing along, clapping, or stomping their feet. You chose to stay at the table with Geralt, following Jaskier's movements around the room with your eyes. A happy noise escaped your throat, though it was nothing discernible as you clapped along to the beat. Geralt eyed you, making sure you didn't knock anything over as you were caught up in the music.

You turned to the witcher, a bright smile on your face as you tried to laugh. He smiled at the joy radiating off of you.

"Another round?" Geralt asked, holding your tankard up. You nodded, bowing your head in thanks as he got up and walked away. You watched Geralt until you noticed a presence at your side. Thinking it was Jaskier, you turned around, but a gasp escaped you as your face fell.

"Hello, (Y/N). Fancy seeing you here."
