It's Complicated

Monday morning I was back at work doing a clients hair. My schedule was full for the whole week, after the launch party the studio got a lot of attention. And also because people came to know that Stella owned the place.

"Good morning Mr Thorne" I heard someone say breathlessly, I turned to my left and see Nick casually strolling in. "Good morning everyone" he said cheerfully, "Morning" comes everyone's reply. "Good morning Alex" he leans in and says to me.

I felt everyone's eyes on us, "hello Nick it's nice to see you again" I said greeting him but not taking my eyes off the lady's hair I was busy straightening. "Ouch! I thought I'd get a little less cold reply" he said holding his hand over his chest, I smirked at his antics.

"Nick? What are you doing here?" I heard Stella ask as she walked up to us. "Hey sister" he greeted and wrapped her into a hug, "What are you doing here?" She asked again after pulling away. "I just thought I'd stop by and I have some news" he shrugged.

"Really what is it?" She crossed her arms in front of her and waited. "I've decided to stay in Miami for a little while" he said giving her a smile, "really?" She asked shocked. "Yeah, for some business" he looked at me and said this, "that's great. We have to celebrate dinner tonight? Alex you're coming too and bring Cami" she ordered before she walked away.

"There you are Mrs Green, all done for your anniversary party" I said to the client as I finished setting her hair. "Thank you Alex it looks perfect" she said turning her head to get a better look. "No problem, I'm sure Mr Green will be shocked to see you" I smiled at her.

"Like hell he will. I'll see you for my next appointment take care Alex" she said as she got her stuff and left. "That was sweet" Nick said leaning against my work bench with his arms crossed, I hadn't noticed until now that he was wearing jeans and a plain t-shirt but he pulled it off so well. He looked so handsome.

"So you're staying in Miami now?" I asked sitting down on the chair, "yeah thought I'd expand a little over here. Have some fun too" he shrugged looking down at me. "That sounds awsome, so what are you thinking?" I asked, "beach resort. I saw a hotel that looked a bit rundown so maybe I could make them an offer" he replied.

"Cool you'll definitely see me there" I said getting up again as my next client walked through the door. "I look forward to it" he replied before walking away. I smiled to myself as I got to work.

After my last client I plopped down on the chair with a sigh. Pulling out my phone I texted Cami about dinner tonight and then scrolled through instagram. "Done for the day?" I looked up and saw Nick standing next to me, he pulled up a chair and sat down.

"Yeah finally" I said with a gorn. Nick was about to say something when my phone cut him off, "sorry" I apologised sheepishly before answering. "Hello?" I didn't bother to look at the caller ID and just answered. "Hey Lexi" a firmiliar voice came through, I perked up hearing his voice.

"Hey Rom, how've you been?" I asked with a smile taking on my face, "I'm good. How have you been?" He asked. "I'm good" I replied simply, "where you at?"

"Just got done with work, going to head out" I said, "that's good." I looked at Nick who was closely watching me then down at my lap, I pursed my lips toghter. "How-how is he?" I asked hastily, Romeo sighed on the other end of the phone. "He's ah...he's good" he finally replied, Romeo sounded as if he was looking at him and replying.

"Listen Lexi I gotta run, I'll call again soon okay?" He asked, "yeah okay" I replied. "Okay bye, love you" he said, "bye love you too" I replied tears welling up in my eyes. I heard some shuffling before someone's else's voice came through. "Is that Alex?" My heart stopped hearing his voice, there was some more shuffling. "Hello Alex?" Then the line went down.

I moved the phone from my face and dailed the number again. "The number you have called is currently unavailable." My heart sank, "are you okay?"

I had forgotten Nick was sitting next to me the whole time, I was embarrassed that he saw me in that frantic state and the look of horror on my face. "Yeah I'm fine, sorry you had to see that" I said staring down at the phone on my lap.

"Was that the boyfriend?" He softly asked, "Yes and no" I repiled. "How is that even possible?" He laughed at my answer. I sighed and looked up at him, "it's complicated."
