*Erin's POV*
I've been in Canada for three month now. Not one word to Jay or the unit, that sucked. Hailey said something and I snapped out of my thoughts.
"Sorry, what did you say?" I faced her.
"Just wanted to ask you if you have a family in Chicago. Of course if it is too personal you don't need to answer." She blushed a bit.
"Yeah, I kind of have two families. I have a husband and two wonderful kids and than the unit." I was totally fine with talking about them.
"That must be awesome to have family. I am only passed on from district to district because there is no spot for me." She looked a little sad.
"Maybe when this is over there's a spot for you in Chicago." I suggested.
"You're serious? But I mean why would your Sargent allow it." Her eyes lit up briefly.
"Well... I know him. He'll be fine with it. But look, there he comes." Hailey and I've been siting in her car waiting for our new boss to roll up.
In the last few weeks we had successfully made it into the company, if you wanted to call it that.
"Mr Kambel, great we we're able to meet today." Hailey greeted him.
"Ladys, always a pleasure seeing you two." He smiled at us.
"Follow me, the next loading should be arriving any minute."
The plan was to first make sure the girls were safe and then the police would step in and arrest Mr Kambel.
"Ahh, there they come." I pointed to a car that was driving up the road.
"There should be about twenty young girls in there. The money from selling them will last a while." The smile he had on his face made me sick.
"Showtime. If your personally interested on one or more of them I can cut you a deal if you want." He laughed and I couldn't believe that he just said that. For him the people were just objects he was making money with.
After we checked on the girls, Mr Kambel for quality issues, Hailey and I for any wounds or something like that, the girls we're loaded in a new truck and after the door was closet the police stepped in and that was the point it went south.
"Police! Don't move!" They came from everywhere. Mr Kambel grabbed Hailey and held a knife to her trought.
The look Hailey gave me made clear that she wanted me to stay in my cover but I needed to help her and so I drew my gun.
"CPD, drop the knife or I will drop you." My voice was cold and numb.
"I knew you two were cops from the beginning." He laughed scornfully.
"But we got you anyways, ya damn prick." In this situation, too, Hailey did not lose heart.
"I would be really careful with what to..." Mr Kambel dropped. Someone from a higher position must have shot him.
Two policemen came running to check on Mr Kambel so I looked for Hailey.
"Your alright?" She had a thin cut at her throught.
"Yeah, I'm fine. But why did you give up your cover?" She looked a bit confused.
"Because you needed help. That's what partners do, you know." I helped her get up and than we left the scene in her car.
As we arrived at the apartment it was empty and only our closes were there in a bag.
"Guess we can go home than." I smiled by the thought of seeing Jay.
The first thing I did as I got my phone back was turning it on and I was so happy as I saw the messages from Jay. A tear rolled down my cheek as I listened to his voice message.
"You're hell of a lucky girl." Hailey was staying next to me.
"It was me a pleasure working with you." She hugged me and than wanted to leave.
"I was serious when I offered you to come with me to Chicago." I looked at her and a smile appeared at her face.
We both agreed that she would fly back with me, luckily there was a plane that would leave Vancouver and fly back to Chicago today. So we got into the car and drove to the airport were we than checked in and were waiting for our plane to board.
