"You seem to be deep in thought, Link."
The (h/c) haired girl chuckled as her (e/c) eyes filled with wonder. There was never a moment when the brightness in her eyes would falter. She was selfless and cared for others. She made his days brighter despite the twilight that surrounded them. He always felt at peace when he was with her; he felt at ease and felt that he could take on anything as long as she was his supporter.
"What is this?"
The blonde and clueless male asked as a foreign weapon was placed against the ground. The blue hues of his eyes filled with wonder at the mysterious object. It looked like a powerful weapon indeed, but with practice, he was sure he would be able to wield it.
"It's a weapon infused with dark magic. Alevina told me to bring this to you so that you could practice with it."
The pristine wolf informed as she circled the weapon. Oh, how he wished he put the pieces of the ever complicated puzzle together much sooner.
"You must meet my friend Alevina."
The transformed wolf said with much enthusiasm as he spoke to the other.
"I've already met her."
She answered back. At the time, Link had been too dense to realize how quickly and abruptly she had replied back to the comment. How had he been so naive not to realize that (Y/N) and Alevina were the same person?
"D-don't touch me...you witch..."
He could always remember the look on her face so clearly that day he finally realized. Her look was one of hurt and disappointment. She was disappointed that someone who was as kind as himself was just like everyone else who treated her the same way...
...That anyone who was associated with dark magic was automatically a witch or demon spawn. That's what everyone thought.
He felt foolish for being so brash, but was he really to blame? He was caught off guard and at a moment he least expected it.
But it was all but a memory and nothing could be done about it. No matter how hard he tried, no matter how high the level of magic he possessed, nothing could be done. Was he at fault? Yes, he was. But the two almost lovers knew that she was at fault as well.
"Sir Link, your requests have been fulfilled," a Twili informed their new king who stood above a ledge.
He overlooked the newly built kingdom after it was ravished by the battle that occurred not to long ago. Who would've thought the battle for the Fused Shadows would result in something as catastrophic as this? If only his temper was controlled...
"Very good," was all he said as he reminisced the past, "if any of the creatures lay one single finger, or so much as a breath, I will have their lives. Is that understood? They are only there to keep them from danger."
The Twili gulped under his emperor's stern gaze. But it wasn't only Link's gaze that troubled the Twili man. Anyone could see the ferocity behind those orange irises. The words spoken by him all seemed but a minor threat, but this Twili man, knew the emperor like the back of his hand. The man knew how important the (L/N) family was to Link. And he very well knew just how vicious Link would get.
The Twili man didn't know why the family was so important to the Twilight's new ruler, but he knew not to question it. After all, this man knew who Link was before he became their ruler of Twilight.
"Caeus," the deep voice called out to him.
"Yes, sir?" the man replied with slight wariness. Not once had Link ever referred to him by his first name. He'd would always be called with a "you" or "Twili-man" or with a simple gesture.
"Do you think I'll ever get out of this situation alive?"
Link stood against the railing, still overlooking the kingdom. The question was a rather odd one and one that truly showcased how scared Link was.
No. But yes? The Link that was speaking now was his original self. At most times, it was the opposite side that spoke, the Shadow. The Shadow would take over most of the time, but would still allow the original Link to speak. Both had similar goals and intentions but different ways of achieving them.
"Of course, you will, Link. There is no doubt about it."
The Link clad in dark attire spun to face Caeus. Link looked at the only other Twili who also resembled a human. Caeus had a slim figure, with small orange irises like Link's own. His dark violet hair was tied into a short ponytail and he wore a dark cloak. The cloak wasn't as intricate as the ruler's, but it did show that he was of Link's royal visors.
Link looked at his hand in dismay, "That's not what I meant, Caeus. I meant, can I get out of this situation still having my original self intact?"
"That's really hard to determine, Link. There's only a very minute part of that left, and if you continue on with your current state, who knows how long it will take before it fully vanishes?"
Even though Link was fully transformed into a Twilight emperor, just as how the Shadow had been before, the Light, as Caeus referred to it as, was fighting to take over again. The roles were now reversed. There were little moments when the Light would control, but it was only because the Shadow allowed for it.
It was only a matter of time before that small amount of light disappeared. It was like the saying goes, "It's easier to hate someone than it is to become friends with them." Which is indirectly saying it's much easier to allow the darkness to consume you.
"I can only hope that she returns quick enough to dispel it."
A silence followed soon after that. Caeus himself was wondering if he would ask the question. It was a rather sensitive topic, but maybe Link would finally be open to speak since it was the Light he was conversing with.
"Link? Who exactly is she? Is she related to that (L/N) family?"
A tiny grin cracked on Link's face as he remembered her smile and shining eyes.
"Her name is (Y/N) (L/N)." Link found himself smiling solemnly. "She is a shape-shifter and a very wonderful person. She has this distinct crescent mark that..."
His sentence immediately trailed into silence and Caeus knew that the Shadow had returned. One important detail Caeus was able to learn, was that (Y/N) was a shape-shifter. Of course, he already knew how she and her family looked like because of Link.
"Now go and do as I said," the harsh voice spoke, easily replacing the softer one moments ago. "I allowed him to speak enough for today. And next time, don't ask about her again."
The topic of (Y/N) was a rather sensitive to topic no matter which Link was in control, but the Shadow was more harsh about it.
"Is that understood, Twili-man?"
Caeus bowed with a stoic expression. No use in asking any more now. "Yes, my lord."
And with that, Caeus departed from the palace, venturing in search of his designated targets. Though the requests were already fulfilled, he was still responsible that the creatures didn't do anything reckless. But, he highly doubted that because almost everyone feared their new ruler. Link was more powerful than anyone could ever imagine.
Caeus retreated into a portal and into the normal world of Hyrule. Covered with a large hooded black cloak, he started his journey. He already knew that Link's minions were striking in the smaller areas of the Kingdom and it wouldn't be long until the largely populated areas were targeted.
All the while, Caeus hoped that the worst would never come and that Link could be saved from his own madness. He pitied Link, his light side anyway. He always saw when the very last bit of Light would try to take over the Shadow, but it was to no success.
A flash of bluish-white caught the Twili's eye and he stopped in his tracks. Normally, he would have disregarded it, but his senses told him that whatever passed by was extremely powerful, maybe even as powerful as Link.
Caeus sensed a familiar power, the power that Link had, with the strange force. He needed to find out for himself because maybe this was the answer to the solution.
No one knew exactly how to stop the Shadow except for Link himself, and the Shadow was anything but willing to share that information. The Shadow intended to have it stay that way.
A growl came from behind a bush as even more light emitted from behind. Caeus's senses were tingling and he knew at that very second, the source did indeed share the same powers with Link. As wise as he was, Caeus held his hands up in surrender and brought his knees to the floor. Surely, he would save himself trouble if he showed that he wasn't malicious.
But he wondered...
Why was the source already thinking wrongly of him?
"I bring you no harm. My intentions are clear, and I only want to ask a simple question."
A rustling came from behind and a pristine wolf revealed herself. Her golden eyes looked the cloaked man up and down, but he was flabbergasted.
A wolf? He didn't really expect the source to be an animal.
Behind the hood of his cloak, his orange irises viewed the creature in front of him. Without question, this wolf was powerful; it was written all over her face. His gaze suddenly traveled down the neck of the creature and that was when he saw it.
The crescent mark that Link told him about. Was it only a mere coincidence? Or was this wolf her? Link did mention to him that (Y/N) was a shape-shifter.
The wolf approached with small steps, and it seemed that she was sniffing the strangely dressed man. She appeared to be like a normal wolf and the Twili-man almost frowned when a voice entered his thoughts.
"You reek of them and of him. Take off your hood. I want to see your face."
She was speaking to him telepathically.
"Can I trust you won't bite off my face?" Caeus questioned.
"Weren't you the one who said your intentions were clear? If you mean no harm, then I mean no harm as well. Now, remove the hood," she fought back.
When Caeus removed his cloak, the wolf still stared at him intently. (Y/N) wasn't sure if she could trust this random stranger, but for the time being, she would make it appear that way.
"Just as I thought," she said one last time before transforming into her human form.
It was the perfect fit. She was just as Link had described to Caeus. The Twili-man had many questions to ask her, but she made it clear that she would be the one dominating the conversation.
"Tell your people to stop watching over us." Her still golden gaze held no amusement nor gratitude, "It's rather creepy and unnecessary. We can manage on our own." She eyed him once again. "You work for him, don't you? Link?"
Under her gaze, he really had no choice but to answer her questions. The gaze was fierce and she was part wolf. In an instant, if he tried anything, she would surely pounce back.
"Yes, yes I do. He is my--"
"Tell him I don't need protection from you or from him because by the time I may actually consider it, I will have taken him down."
His ears perked up at this. She was, indeed, the answer to the solution.
"Well?" she asked impatiently.
"I have a proposition for you, Miss (Y/N) (L/N)."
Her brow arched at the strange man. She was rather surprised that the man was already proposing something when they had barely met.
"My name is Caeus, and I am Link's most trusted visor. Let me help you take him down, but, I will not tell him you don't need his help because he would become suspicious. In other words, I am not really proposing anything, but rather, offering my assistance."
"Why? Don't you want to see your ruler take over everything?" She asked skeptically. It was rather odd for someone so important within a court to want that of their ruler.
"We have the same goal in mind, (Y/N). We both want to see Link return to the way he was."
He spoke sincerely as a smile formed on the girl's face.
Maybe she was rushing into things and maybe she was trusting him too easily, but something in her wolf senses told her he was worth her time.
"Alright, but you need to prove yourself first."
Author's Note
Always gotta have those OC's huh? Obviously, Caeus is a character made up by yours truly. I will leave you to imagine how he looks, but my idea of him is basically of the vocaloid, Gakupo, just with shorter hair and the Twili attributes.
