The little Y/n gasped at the boy on his knees in front of them. "I didn't know your Quirk could do this Hitomi!"
As her eyes glowed, Hitomi stood proudly over the boy with her hands on her hips. "Now he can properly pay for hurting you, N/n."
"But Hitomi... I don't want him to pay," Y/n said, their head tilting to the side. "He said sorry, so its already okay."
"N/n, you don't get it." Stepping past the boy who blankly stared at the ground, Hitomi grabbed onto Y/n's hands. "No one else gets to hurt you. And no one messes with my things! He still needs to say sorry to me."
"What do you mean?
"You're so slow, N/n. But it's okay, because you have me."
Y/n looked between their friend and the boy on the ground. The image blurred away into the sight of their feet slamming into the walkway as they ran through Musutafu.
After everything that happened, there was one place Y/n needed to go. They had run from the school, but their exhaustion soon caught up with them. They were even growing dizzy from their previous whiplash. Despite all of that, they rushed to the Amaterasu's family home.
As they ran down the neighborhood, the younger boy they were looking for was further up the street, sprinting in their direction.
"N/n!" he yelled, pushing himself to run faster. As the two got closer, Y/n stopped their tired jog. Shirohato threw himself onto Y/n, wrapping his arms around their waist and hiding his teary face in their chest. "I just heard everything from my parents. Did you really see her?"
"Kid, I..." Y/n tightly held onto him, a hand stroking his head. "That can't be the Hitomi we know."
His choked sobs broke through his voice as he said, "My sister... She's been used by those villains! This whole time... I'm so worried."
To Y/n, it didn't seem that Hitomi was doing anything against Her will. She didn't look like She was being used. In fact, Y/n could have sworn they saw Her grin as She tried to strangle them. A hand brushed over their bandages.
When he felt their hand leave his head, he looked up at them, only now seeing the wrap around their neck. He pulled away from them, tears still flowing, and grabbed their arms. "N/n! What happened to you? The news said everyone was safe!"
"It's nothing serious." They didn't want him to worry anymore. He doesn't deserve any more pain. "When I saw Hitomi..." They were going to figure something out. "She said she wanted you to live a better life." They were going to get everything back to normal. "And I'm going to save her, because that's what heroes do."
That's why they applied to U.A. To make everything better for the Amaterasu's, because they had made everything for them.
"N/n, please don't leave me."
"I could never leave you or your sister." Those two were all they had.
"My parents want you to come over. They were also worried after the attack."
"If they welcome me so warmly, I can't refuse."
Hitomi's bitter hatred would be their personal secret. They were going to get Her back somehow, even if She was kicking and screaming the entire way home.
Yet, when school was cancelled for one day, all they could do was sit in their house and relive Hitomi's nails sinking into their throat as She squeezed shut their airway. Her hands were cold, the skin still soft. Y/n could never forget the way those hands felt. It haunted their memories and sweetest fantasies. They hoped that was simply a weird side effect of Her Quirk.
Flopping onto their side, Y/n rubbed their eyes. Hitomi had been the biggest part of their life, but they were tired of always thinking of Her. They were meeting new people in their class, and they actually seemed to like them. Unlike their middle school class that ostracized them per Hitomi's request, they were friendly and often smiled at them. It would be completely new to them to befriend anyone, but it was also exciting.
Sitting up from their spot on the couch, Y/n checked their phone. They opened their contacts, scanning over all eight. Besides the Amaterasu family, they only had emergency contacts and Kaminari's number. They had done this several times throughout the day: considering finally deleting Hitomi's number. Instead, they pressed the call number as usual.
The phone rang multiple times, then beeped.
"Hey Hitomi. It's me again," Y/n said, holding their phone close to their ear. "Now I know why you won't answer. You probably threw your phone away when you joined that villain group. That's alright." They gritted their teeth, a low growl escaping their throat. "Because I'm getting stronger than you. Didn't you hate that more than anything? Me not needing you?"
There was no one on the other end. All they heard in response was the static from their phone's poor quality.
"But... I guess I didn't really get rid of you. In the end, I enrolled into U.A. like how you wanted to do when we were younger..." Up until that point, Y/n had never gotten too emotional over Hitomi's disappearance. They thought other people deserved to be upset more than they did. But sitting alone, talking to Her voicemail because She abandoned them brought tears to their eyes.
"I still do everything because of you... Because I want you to look at me too! So the next time we meet-Next time..." they rubbed at the tears falling and yelled through their strained sobs, "I will convince you to stay with me!"
