Two weeks passed by in an instant for Y/n. When not at school, they spent all their time training at home. They focused the most on gaining both weight and muscle. The more mass they had meant more power to store. In only fourteen days they hadn't gained much, so they could only hope it would give them the slightest advantage compared to their last fight with 1-A. All of their strength would rely on their opponent, anyhow.
During their training, all they could think about was the challenges proposed by their classmates. Everyone was motivated in their own extreme way that it made Y/n feel even further behind. Joining the hero course for a girl seemed to be a pathetic reason when they stood next to students like Shinsou.
The sports festival was going to test the lengths of their determination, but Y/n questioned the extent of their willpower.
"I wouldn't worry, Y/n," Mina said, quickly patting them on the shoulder. "I can tell you've been training really hard." She gave them a confident smirk and a thumbs up. After reconciling with Kaminari, she had spent more time trying to be friendly with Y/n. They constantly rebuffed her affections with awkward comments, unable to respond normally.
"Thanks." It didn't mean anything to Y/n. They didn't start seriously training until two weeks ago.
"You're a natural born hero. After all, you saved me at the entrance exam," Kaminari cheered. "This festival will be a piece of cake for you."
Mina's package deal, a girl with short purple hair and headphone jacks attached to her ears, twirled the long cords and shrugged, "Are you even nervous? I don't think I've ever seen you express anything other than disgust." Even Y/n could pick up on the humor in her statement, but they didn't know how to respond without sounding brash.
"Of course they're nervous!" Mina defended, poking her pink fingers into Y/n's cheeks. "You can tell by the lines around their mouth."
Flushing from her contact, Y/n pulled their face away and covered their burning cheeks with their hands. "I don't get nervous!" they shouted.
"Woah, I totally get what you mean," Sero said, observing Y/n's expression. After the events at the USJ, he also seemed to appear around them more often. "How did you learn to read them so well? I always thought they were so serious."
Mina raised a finger and winked at her friends. "That's because Y/n is actually a total softie who gets embarrassed super easily! Once you see that, it's easy to see how they try to mask their more sensitive feelings."
"Why are you talking about me like I'm not here?" Y/n yelled, their face a bright red.
"See! Look at how red they are!" Mina squealed. "They're so cute!"
"What are you saying?" they defensively said, swatting away Mina's hands that tried to coddle them.
Jirou tried to hide her laugh with her hand, but the chuckle slipped through her fingers. "They're like an angry cat..."
"I'm going to pummel you all at this festival!"
"Now they're like Bakugou!" Kaminari exclaimed, unable to contain her amusement.
"YOU DUMB SHITS. I AM NOTHING LIKE THAT!" the aforementioned boy shouted, stomping over to the table the group sat at. "Won't you guys take anything seriously?"
Kirishima who was by his side, rubbed the back of his head. "Everyone prepares in different ways, man."
"This isn't another one of our dumb classes," Bakugou sternly said, shoving his hands in his pockets. His shining red eyes focused on Y/n. "If I were you, I would be shitting my pants instead of pissing around."
"C'mon bro, you don't have to be like that..." Kirishima said, stepping in between the two.
Of course Bakugou's statement was a threat, but it was also a reminder of what he told them two weeks ago. "I think I'm fine," they huffed, moving past the worried red head. "Did you feel so worried that you had to come see me?"
"Shut the fuck up, punching bag. You know I'm winning this shitty competition," he growled, leaning towards them.
They could feel the heat that influenced his Quirk radiating from his body. In that second, they wondered how nice it must be to have such a powerful Quirk. One that didn't require being punched all the time. "I'm going to raise hell out there."
It seemed a heat wave flashed through his body as he gritted his teeth. "You better." Then, he turned around and walked away
"Woah, that was intense..." Sero muttered.
"What's with Bakugou anyway?" Mina sighed, crossing her arms.
"Was all that even necessary?" Jirou added. She still sat unfazed, twirling her earphone jacks.
Y/n shrugged, "It's whatever. I'll meet you guys on the field."
"Aren't we supposed to wait in here until they call us?" Kaminari said, standing up next to them.
"I know Bakugou is brash, but you don't need to stress over what he said," Kirishima said, patting them on the shoulder.
"He is right about one thing: I need to focus more if I want to stand a chance next to you guys. So, I'm going to get some fresh air to help me get in the mindset." Y/n glanced over all the people around them. They all cared enough to sit together and try to cheer each other up. Even in his extremely brazen way, Bakugou checked up on them.
"I'm winning for sure," they said. Even if they didn't completely believe it, something about saying that sentence made them feel better.
Mina bounced up and down with her hands on Jirou's shoulders. "Look! They're smiling!"
"I see! Now stop shaking me!!"
"It's not that big a deal!" they blurted out as they rushed out the door to hide their red face.
When they were gone, the friend group shared curious glances.
"Don't you think it's weird how L/n and Bakugou talk?" Sero asked.
"Yeah, especially since he punched them on our first day..." Kaminari said, caressing an imaginary beard.
Mina gasped, "The other day, he walked them out of the classroom. Like, on purpose!"
"Those two never leave class with someone else," Kirishima said.
"You don't think... they like each other, do you?"
"That's insane. Bakugou and L/n?"
"Bakugou doesn't even seem the type to have friends, and L/n barely tolerates having us around."
"Maybe it's because they're so similar..."
"No way..."
