Wednesday's POV

Enid had the next two days off after the proposal so she was calling her friends and family all day to tell them she and I were getting married. But then I had to worry about my own family.

Of course my family has been trying hard to make up for what they did but I still had immense anxiety trying to communicate with them, especially when it came to Enid.

I had to go to therapy in town, I had a new therapist now named Katherine and she was great and Enid made sure to drive me to my sessions to feel good about me driving her to work when she had her shifts. It was a nice trade off.

"I'll be right here for ya- make sure to talk about the hard stuff today and not avoid it." I kissed her goodbye and walked to the building, going up a flight of stairs and waiting in the "lobby" which was just two couches right outside of her door.

"Come in Wednesday" Katherine cheerfully rang and opened the door. She always wore a t-shirt with jeans and some sort of brown boots. She had a lot of decorations and memorabilia from Africa and the Philippines, where her parents were from.

When we started talking I immediately jumped in to tell her about my proposal and showed her the ring I had carved myself. "This is incredible news congratulations! The ring suits you and Enid perfectly."

Enid has been in here a few times to help keep my safety plan in place or when I've been too scared to tell her things about myself alone. She handled harsh words well when it came to helping me out and Katherine loved her.

"Have you told your parents yet?" I shifted uncomfortably and stayed silent. She nodded her head and said "you know, it's been quite some time and from what I've heard I think they'll handle it well now."

"And what if they don't?" I blurted out in frustration. "As much as it would be great, what's the worst that could happen. Explain it to me." She put her hands together and leaned back in her chair.

"They could say they don't accept it, wont allow it, and they won't come to the wedding and.. and.. I might run away again and try to.." I stopped speaking and let the air silence the conversation for a few moments.

"Yes and those are all awful things we don't want to happen, but we can't let our families wound our futures. Especially when it comes to the family you are going to create. Would you like to repeat your safety plan out loud to me?"

I twiddled my fingers around and looked down at my lap. "I tell Enid and either she'll call you or I will. And if you don't pick up I try my talking exercises to communicate better. If that doesn't work I will have to call 911 and go to a hospital."

There was one time where this plan came into affect, and it was my second day being in the apartment with Enid. I had a breakdown worried I'd lose everything, hurting her, and that the feeling of change won't go away.

Enid called Katherine who wasn't available, which made my anxiety worse but Katherine helped me set up statements with blanks to communicate better. Enid even made them into notecards for me in case I needed help remembering.

She was always so patient with me and I could tell she would be fully panicking with me but would use every fiber in her being to be present and help me.

That night I had to use my cards which she laid out on the floor for me. I'd point at a card and speak, filling in the blanks. "I feel scared of the future. I feel like disappearing because of that fear."

That's how that night went and after her listening to me she said "I'm scared too, it's new for us but you're smart and loving and I don't want to leave you. We'll get used to this change together. Thank you for telling me how you feel, it helps both of us."

"So if your parents don't accept it and do everything you're afraid of, there is still one thing in your control. And that's how you'll handle the news and keeping yourself safe." Goddamnit she was always right.

After the session I went to the car and Enid would always ask how it went but NEVER asked what we talked about. It was to respect my privacy and keep our boundaries safe.

"I talked about my parents and what I'll do if they react badly again" I said while driving home. She put her hand out for me to hold while keeping the other hand on the steering wheel.

"Did the safety plan come up?" She asked. "Yeah, but I'd like you to be there for the call please." Enid gave my hand a tight squeeze. "Of course I'll be there for you."

After eating some lunch we sat down at my desk and activated the crystal ball, calling my parents who picked up on the 3rd ring.

"Hey" I said nervously, Enid gave them a friendly wave and waited for me to speak some more. "Hello Enid, how are you?" My mom asked.

Enid looked at me and gave a small laugh. "Um I'm doing really well actually." My mother smiled and said "and how are you Wednesday? Is everything ok?"

I started to hyperventilate and Enid held onto my thigh for reassurance. "Yeah I'm doing good. Happy actually. Really happy. But there's something I need to tell you."

My parents gave a concerned look at each other but remained quiet. "Enid and I are getting married."

My parents smiled and released a big breath together, obviously relieved I wasn't telling them something bad. "Darling that's wonderful news" my mother said tearing up.

Pugsley in the background said "WHAT?!" And came running up to the ball, shoving his face in view. "YOU AND ENID ARE GONNA HAVE A WEDDING?!"

We were all laughing off the nerves and enjoying the pleasant aura, even Enid was having a hard time not smiling. "Yes soon to be little bro" she said cheerfully.

Pugsley ran around in circles very excited he would be having an official step sister soon. "So when's the wedding my little viper? Should I be calling you something too?" My dad asked Enid excitedly.

"Oh no- that's ok. Uhh we haven't decided on a date yet but we'll keep you updated" she answered.

We hung up soon after and Enid got up, pulled me out of my chair and spun me around in circles with excitement. "Wooo we did it Weds! I'm so proud of you!"

I pretended to be grossed out and push her off but she only held me tighter and stopped spinning. She was sniffling in my shoulder and I could feel hot tears soak through my shirt.

"Hey hey what's wrong?" She put me down and wiped her eyes with her sleeves. "Nothing at all I'm just so happy about all of this."

I grabbed her face and gave her a big kiss. "No more worrying, everything will be fine now. We just get married and have kids at some point."

She reeled her head back and looked at me in surprise. "Wait you really want kids? You weren't just saying that in the proposal to win me over?"
