"Are you serious?" Luca huffed. "Alright. Tomorrow we'll figure it out. I'm in the middle of something."
He walked back towards me.
"Everything okay?" I questioned.
"Nah." He shook his head. "Juno Spurr is trying to switch from the lakers to the nicks."
"That's good?" I furrowed my eyebrows.
"Yes, but we want to represent him."
"What's the problem with that?" I questioned.
"Other agencies are jumping on him with bigger offers."
"So then match it?"
"It's not that easy."
"Dumb it down for me," I said while grabbing the butter. He let out a sigh while checking his watch.
"Juno Spurr is a popular player, but his skills aren't that great. I'm not investing all that money in a social media star. When he gets into the gameplay and his stats aren't doing good, his value will decrease."
"Wait, so then wouldn't it still decrease regardless of the play?"
"Yes, but I'm not risking money. It may seem like a lowball but it'll be worth it. When I sign him on, then I can negotiate a contract with the Knicks that'll pay the big bucks. Tomorrow he's supposed to be at the knicks game and I'll work my magic there."
"That's so cool. I don't think I've ever been to an NBA." I sighed. "Can you add in the butter?"
I walked towards the fridge while grabbing the can of "7 up".
"Actually never mind," I said while walking back.
"What's that for?" He pointed towards the soda.
"The biscuits."
"You put soda in the biscuits?" He furrowed his eyebrows. "Like actual soda?"
"Yes. You can't taste it. The seven-up reacts with the dough and it makes the biscuits nice and fluffy. Something my grandmother taught me that."
"I've never heard of that."
"I'm sure Juno Spurr has, he's from the south. See, you're going to lose this offer due to your lack of research." I shook my head.
"You know who Juno Spurr is?"
"Duh! He's like America's sweetheart. Everyone loves a rags-to-riches story and a family man. It's crazy that you could potentially represent him."
His eyes lit up as if he had an idea.
"What?"
"You busy tomorrow at eight?"
"No...why?"
"I need your attendance and one of those cakes."
***
"I don't see how I fit into this equation." I sighed while placing the cake down in the middle of the table.
Luca stared out through the glass window before cheering. The Knicks just scored.
"You know, when you invited me, I imagined sitting court-side," I mumbled.
"This is ten times better." He turned around. "Free drinks and cake."
He walked over to the cake platter, reaching for the lid.
"I swear you put crack in this." He shook his head.
"No, save it until Juno comes in."
"Fine."
"Santos! What's up, man!" The tall guy walked in. I felt my heart beat out of my chest.
Juno Spurr. He was even cuter in person...and tall.
"What's up, man!"
"Who's the lady?"
"Uh." Luca turned to look at me. "Luna! This is Luna."
"Nice to meet you, Luna." He stuck out his hand.
I held mine out as it visibly shook. I never met a celebrity before and it was showing. I wanted to scream and run around the room, but I kept my composure.
Juno laughed before shaking my hand. "This your girl?"
"Yeah." Luca nodded.
No! I am not!
He smiled. "We have twins on the way."
"That's what's up. I didn't know you were a family man. Every time I'm in New York, I see you at the clubs."
Luca let out a stiff laugh.
"Where are you from, miss Luna?"
"Alabama." I smiled.
"I have family from Alabama!"
"No way! Small world?" I nervously chuckled. I pulled out a chair and sat down. Luca and Juno did the same.
"Did your boyfriend tell you how he's been harassing me to work with his agency?" Juno laughed.
"He did." I chuckled.
"You think I should?" He questioned.
I turned towards Luca. He nodded towards the cake.
"Uhh...I made a pound cake, would you like a slice?" I questioned.
"Oh wow. I haven't had a pound cake since I was a little boy. Hell yeah, I do." He smiled.
"It's already sliced so you can just grab a piece."
My phone buzzed and I looked down.
Luca De Santos
Talk more about your southern stuff."Girl, you made this pound cake? It's transporting me back to my grandmothers' house." He said while taking another bite.
"It's my grandmothers' recipe."
"You snapped on this." He nodded. "But, you still didn't answer my question. Do you think I should sign with your boyfriend?"
"A hundred percent." I nodded. "He's a hard worker and it pays off."
"Even if he's paying me less than the other companies?"
I glanced at Luca. He looked defeated.
"Yes."
"Why is that?"
"Because Luca's agency doesn't jump from what's hot. The other agencies want you because you're making a name for yourself outside of basketball. But the internet comes and goes. Trends die quickly. When the companies slightly sense that you're not what's next, they'll drop you. It happened it's Khalid O'phill." I shrugged.
Juno remained quiet. Luca looked like a dear in headlights. Did I say something bad?
"Okay, fine." He started. "I'm taking a chance on you, Santos."
Luca smiled. "I won't let you down."
"I'm gonna catch the game. Let's set up a time to meet later this week."
"Yeah. I'll have my assistant reach out to you." Luca nodded.
"Can I take this?" He questioned while pointing towards the platter.
"Go ahead."
Juno smiled before grabbing the platter and walking out. Luca immediately embraced me in a hug and squeezed me tight. He pulled away.
"You're a lifesaver." He said.
"I know."
"Please tell me you made another cake."
"I always make back up."
