Sebastian's POV
A new year at Hogwarts. It felt wrong to be there without Anne. I stood in the common room with my best friend, Ominis Gaunt. We were standing by the window anticipating the idea of teasing first years about spotting mermaids.
That was Anne's favorite thing to do. I shouldn't be at Hogwarts. I should be back in Feldcroft, finding a cure for my twin sister.
Ominis assured me that this is the best place to be. I could find a cure here. My visits to the restricted section now have a purpose. Find a cure.
I was lost in my thoughts at the sorting ceremony. I was sandwiched between Ominis and Imelda Reyes.
Why she was sitting next to me, I'll never know. She was rude and arrogant, but then again I've been told I am too.
Imelda explains what is going on to my blind best friend as the sorting ceremony proceeds.
I keep pushing my food around my plate while thinking about Anne. I guess Ominis could feel my mind racing as I felt his elbow dig into my side.
"Sebastian? Have you heard a single word I have said to you" he hissed.
I force a cocky smirk on my face and respond in my usual sarcastic attitude, "Maybe I'm not answering you for a reason Ominis."
A thick Scottish accent interjects, "These new Slytherins look like the perfect group to send on a mermaid hunt!"
"Imelda, you can't send them hunting for them. Just place them in front of the window for a few hours", I snap back at her.
Imelda has tried to take her spot as Anne in our trio, but no one could replace Anne. Especially Imelda! All she cared about was flying around on her broom and gossiping.
We sit together talking about our plans for this year when I see professor Fig peak his head in the Great Hall, giving Professor Black a nod.
As Headmaster Black walks to the door, Professor Weasley makes her way to the front of the teachers tables.
"Students. Quiet down please. We have another student coming in. You may have heard about the dragon attack on her carriage. I expect all of you to kind and welcoming to our new fifth year."
A new fifth year? How does that happen? Did their owl get lost four years ago?
I could care less about a new student. I made the plan to ignore them while I finish my semester. I don't need new friends and I don't need distractions.
Everything changed when she walked into the room. Her cheeks where red from having all the students' eyes on her.
A nervous smile plastered on her lips. Her lips.
I found myself staring at her lips. I quickly shake my head to snap out of it.
She was objectively pretty. I guess. No! No distractions! Focus Sallow!
"Professor Weasley! We have one more to be sorted" the headmaster commanded.
"This will be good", I whispered to myself.
