"I want to welcome you all to the Edgar Allan Poe Cup." Weems said into the microphone, "This is one of Nevermore's proudest annual traditions, dating back 125 years. Each team must row across to Raven Island, pull a flag from Crackstone's Crypt, and hustle back without sinking or being sunk."
There was a tapping on the baot that Iris noticed, and she turned around to look at Wednesday, who was looking at something in the floor, presumably Thing. Iris shook her head and faved back to the front.
"First team to cross the finish line with their flag wins the cup and bragging rights for a year, as well as some speacual privileges. Let the Poe Cup begin!"
She shot a gun into the air, and everyone began to row towards Raven Island.
The Joker team rammed into the Black Cat's boat, calling out "Oh, sorry, excuse us!"
Another that Iris didn't know the name of, rowed up beside them and pulled a lever that sent an axe over their heads, and the whole team had to duck so as not get their heads chopped off.
The same suddenly got pushed into one of the red markers that marked the course, and their boat was broken into two pieces and the team was thrown into the water.
Iris had cover her laugh up (although she didn't do it very well, as when the team came up, they glared at her.)
Wednesday had pulled out a telescope and had spotted something in the water.
"Thing." She said, looking down. There was a sound of a lever pulling, and then something shot out of the boat.
Once they docked, Iris and Wednesday got out, whilst Ella stayed back to make sure no one else messed with their boats.
Enid tried to follow them, but Wednesday turned to her. "Stay here and make sure Bianca can't mess with our boat."
Enid nodded, and sat back down.
Iris ran off, turning invisible as she went. She could hear Thing pattering behind her, presumably going to mess with the Jokers.
She crouched behind a log, and picked up a stone, and threw it at Xavier. He turned to see where it came from, but he obviously couldn't see her.
She threw another stone at his partner, and they both looked at each other, confused. It bought them some time, but not enough, as they still ran to get their flag, passing Wednesday as they made their way back to their boat.
Iris folliwed them, seeing as that was what she was meant to do, becoming visible again ad climbing in the boat in front of Enid.
"Where's Wednesday?" Ella asked. Iris shrugged. Wednesday should've been back by now, shouldn't she?
Wednesday came back a few minutes later, to the other three yelling at hwr to hurry up.
When thet finally left, they were greeted with the sight of the Jokers boat being filled with water. They all laughed as they passed them, and Xavier in the back threw his oar down in frustration.
"I just asked myself, "WWWD?" What Would Wednesday Do?" Enid said proudly.
The shore had finally come into sight, and the could see people waving black flags in support for their team.
Wednesday stopped rowing momentarily, pulling a lever below her, and spear shot out from the side of the boat.
They tried to get closer to Bianca's team, but the mermaid that Wednesday had caught earlier with a net had somehow gotten free, and oushed then away.
Iris groand out loud. She wasn't normally competitive, but she really wanted to win this one.
For Enid.
They being pushed over to the same red marker that the other team had been, and they all began to row madly, trying to get away.
All of a sudden, the pushing stopped, and they were headed back to the shore. The spears pierced Bianca's boat, and the water began to fill rapidly.
The finally docked, and the crowd was cheering wildly for them. Enid and Wednesday climbed out, holding the flag between them, and Iris followed behind with Ella.
"We did it!" Enid was cheering, her arm around Iris' shoulders, "OMG Iris, we did it! This is the greatest moment of my entire life. Admit it, you kind of got into the whole school spirit thing."
Iris watched the happiness on Enid's face, and the watched as a soaking wet Bianca climbed out of the lake, pure anger on her face, and she had never felt happier.
