"Thank you, give us a minute?" I ask and she nods leaving the tent. "Are you ok?" I ask Aang.
"Yeah, just a nightmare" he mutters.
"About the storm?" I ask and he nods soberly. "I remember trying to save you, but I couldn't. Then there was a bright light and then I don't remember anything else before we woke up" I tell him.
"Same" he admits. "We shouldn't keep them waiting" he states. I nod and we leave the tent together. Each carrying our gliders. Katara smiles at us and leads us to the center of the town.
"Aang, Kamali this is the entire village. Entire village, Aang and Kamali" she introduces us. Aang bows respectfully toward the villagers and I do the same. The village just stares at us.
"Uh, why are they all looking at us like that? Did Appa sneeze on me?" Aang asks. Aang checks his clothing while an elderly woman steps forward out of the line of villagers. She must be the town elder or at least one of them.
"Well, no one has seen an air-bender in a hundred years. We thought they were extinct, until my granddaughter and grandson found you both" she explains.
"Extinct?" we asks in disbelief.
"Aang, Kamali this is my grandmother" Katara tells us.
"Call me Gran-Gran" the elder tells us with a smile. Sokka walks toward us and abruptly snatches Aang's staff out of his hands and starts to examine it. I give him a pointed look, he has no manners.
"What is this, a weapon? You can't stab anything with this!" he states.
"It's not for stabbing, it's for air bending" Aang and I tell him together. Aang takes it back with air bending. He opens his staff into a glider, making Sokka gasp in fright and cover his head with his hands. I giggle.
"Magic trick! Do it again!" one of the kids shouts.
"Not magic little one" I tell her gently.
"Air bending" Aang corrects. "It lets me control the air currents around my glider and fly" he explains.
"Ya know, last time I checked, humans can't fly!" Sokka states not believing him.
"Show him Aang" I tell my brother as I lean on mine. Aang grabs hold of his glider and pushes himself off the ground. The village stares in awe as Aang makes some loops and turns in the sky. Aang makes another loops and speeds up to soar past the gazing villagers. "You think that's cool, watch this" I tell them handing Katara my staff. I jump and let the air catch me. I bend it around me and float in mid air, as the village gasps in awe.
"Show off!" Aang shouts and I see him heading for a watch tower.
"Aang, look out!" I shout and to late. He crushes into it. I laugh with the others as I land. Katara and some other girls of the tribe run toward Aang, smiling. She helps him up out of the snow.
"That was amazing!" she tells him. Sokka runs toward his watchtower and starts to pat it in the hope that he can save it from collapsing any further. While Aang spins his staff around to retract its wings.
"Great. You both are an air-benders, Katara's a water-bender. Together you can just waste time all day long" he says annoyed.
"You're a water-bender?" Aang asks.
"I knew I sensed something different about you" I say with a smile.
"Well, sort of. Not yet" Katara tells us.
"All right, no more playing. Come on, Katara, you have chores" Gran-gran states.
"Who wants to fly?" I ask and the kids cheer. I fly them around one at a time. Just a couple feet off of the ground. They all loved it. We all laugh when Aang manages to get his tongue stuck to his staff. It was a lot of fun.
(Time skip)
I was exploring the village when Katara appears. We go search for Aang. We find him with Sokka. "What's wrong with you?! We don't have time for fun and games with the War going on!" Sokka shouts.
"War?" I ask confused.
"What are you talking about?" Aang asks just as confused.
"You both are kidding, right?" Sokka asks us shocked.
"We're not" I tell him. Aang looks questioningly at Sokka, but the expression on his face changes to enthusiasm when he catches sight of an otter-penguin. He shouts 'penguin!' and chases after it. Katara goes with him. "Tell me about this war" I tell Sokka.
"It started a hundred years ago when the fire nation attacked, been going on ever since" he states. I frown in confusion. Is he talking about the attack on the Earth Kingdom I heard was planned? I still don't get why the fire nation would attack anyone. We all lived in peace, what changed to make the fire nation feel like they had to attack? "If you want to know more, go talk to Gran-gran" he tells me. I nod and go search for her.
I find her and she makes us some tea. We sit down and she begins the story. "Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago we all lived in peace when the Avatar kept balance between the Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation and Air Nomads. But that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked after Avatar Roku's death. Only the Avatar mastered all four elements; could have stopped him. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years have passed, and the Fire Nation is nearing victory in the war" she tells me.
"I never knew, nor did Aang" I tell her.
"He's the avatar, isn't he?" she asks.
"Yes, but he never wanted to be. One day we went for a flight to clear our heads. As we were going to separated so that he could begin his Avatar training. We ended up in a storm and nearly drowned. Somehow I think Aang saved us, but we were trapped in the ice for a hundred years. Aang never meant to leave the world at the misery of the fire nation. We will make this right" I assure her.
"I believe you will" she says with a smile.
"What happened to the other air benders?" I ask curious. "You said no one had seen one for a hundred years until Aang and I turned up" I state. She looks reluctant to answer.
