Glancing at the clock, I saw it was already past 9:00 PM.
I have to eat something.
I didn't want to bother the servants at such a late hour, but my stomach protested again, leaving me with little choice. I headed to the dining hall, hoping to grab a quick bite. I peeked my head inside, only to find Odin and Thor eating.
Just my luck. Why on earth are they eating so late anyways?
As I was about to turn away, the sound of footsteps echoed behind me, and before I could react, Loki's voice rang out.
"Greetings, Y/n!" His grin was too wide, his presence too sudden.
I stiffened, clutching my staff instinctively.
"Loki? What are you doing here?" I demanded, my voice a mix of annoyance and disbelief.
Loki playfully put an arm around my shoulder. "Well, obviously to eat, like you are."
I was about to make an excuse and leave, but Loki began pulling me into the dining hall. I knew I didn't possess the physical strength to outmatch him without using my staff, and the last thing I wanted was to cause a scene.
As we entered the hall, Loki's arm still around my shoulder, Odin and Thor looked up from their meal. I caught Thor's eye for a moment before looking away, feeling a flush of embarrassment.
Loki's trickster smile remained firmly in place as he guided me to sit right next to Thor, causing me to tense up immediately. Loki took a seat across from us, next to Odin.
"Good evening, Y/n." Odin said, his tone neutral but his single eye watchful.
"Good evening, Allfather." I replied politely, still trying to compose myself.
Thor said nothing, his yellow eyes flickering with a hint of annoyance, but he continued eating.
"So, Y/n," Loki began, leaning forward with a mischievous glint in his eye, "what has kept you so occupied that you missed both lunch and dinner?"
I glanced at Loki, then at my plate.
"I was studying. I lost track of time." I replied quietly.
Studying?" Odin asked, his interest piqued.
I nodded, my voice steady. "Yes, I have been. I've learned a lot over the past month about my lineage and the staff, as you instructed me to do."
Odin nodded in approval, his gaze shifting to my staff. "Good. However, you should also learn how to activate your powers without the staff. Many of the Yggdrasil Healers died because once their staffs were taken from them or broken, they were left defenseless. It is crucial that you not rely solely on it, Y/n. Your strength lies within you, not in any object."
I began to remember a dream I had not too long ago, a horrific vision of the massacre of my ancestors. I saw Nordic soldiers breaking the staffs of the Yggdrasil healers and then brutally killing them. The memory brought a wave of nausea, and I covered my mouth to prevent myself from vomiting.
The orb on my staff began to emit a glow, which everyone noticed. I cursed inwardly as I felt my tattoo starting to glow as well.
"Do you remember something from the past?" Odin asked, his voice sharp.
I immediately shook my head, trying to compose myself. "No, my memories of the past are still foggy... I'll inform you if I remember anything significant. I just felt a sudden wave of nausea, probably due to skipping lunch and dinner."
Odin and Thor remained silent, their expressions unreadable. I couldn't tell if they believed my lie or not.
Loki, however, interjected, his tone mischievous. "I don't believe that's the reason." he said, his eyes twinkling. "Her eyes are glowing as well."
