Est’s sobs eventually lost their sharp edges, turning into soft, hiccuping gasps against William’s shoulder. His fingers, still curled into the fabric of William’s shirt, twitched before loosening their grip. His body, exhausted from everything he had been holding in, slumped slightly.

William felt the shift immediately. He pulled back just enough to glance down, finding Est’s eyes fluttering shut, his breath evening out. The weight of exhaustion had finally overtaken him.

"Jesus," William murmured, brushing damp strands of hair away from Est’s forehead. He exhaled slowly, tightening his grip just for a moment before carefully maneuvering Est into his arms. The last thing he wanted was to wake him up now, not when he had finally let go, even just a little.

William carried him across the room, placing him gently on the bed. Est stirred slightly, a faint crease between his brows, but he didn’t wake. William pulled the blanket over him, watching for just a moment longer as his breathing remained slow, steady.

Then, jaw tightening, he turned and left the room.

He pulled his phone from his pocket as he made his way down the hall, pressing a familiar number without hesitation. The moment the call connected, he didn’t bother with pleasantries.

"I need everything," he said, voice low and sharp. "Every single thing you can dig up about the company. I don’t care if it takes all night—whatever they’ve done, whatever they’re hiding, I want to know. And then I want them to burn for it."

There was a pause on the other end of the line before the voice responded, cautious but firm. "William, are you sure about this?"

William’s grip on the phone tightened as he glanced back toward the bedroom, his chest aching at the sight of Est curled up, looking so small, so drained.

"Yeah," he said, his voice unwavering. "I’m sure."

He hung up without another word, his fingers curling into a fist at his side.

Whatever they had done to break Est like this—whatever they had taken from him—they were going to pay.
