Summer, A month after graduation

The living room was a disaster. There were chips crushed on the rug, soda cans stacked like pyramids, and someone, probably Sunghoon, had drawn on the sleeping Soobin's cheek with a marker that claimed to be washable (but wasn't).

It was one of those impulsive sleepovers, the kind that happened out of boredom and one too many "LETS GO" messages in the groupchat.

Beomgyu was sprawled across the beanbag, arms folded behind his head, laughing as Sunoo dramatically reenacted a horror story.

"And then... when the girl looked in the mirror, she saw..."
Sunoo paused for effect.
"...HER GRADES."

Everyone screamed.

Soobin shot up from the couch, groggy. "You all suck."

"Your cheek does too," Sunghoon pointed, grinning.

They burst into another round of chaotic laughter.

The playlist was on shuffle. some Western pop, some old K-pop, even weird TikTok edits that Giselle secretly loved. Beomgyu was vibing, tapping his feet and tossing popcorn into Sunoo's mouth from across the room.

Then it happened.

A song played.

Calming intro. Familiar. Too familiar.

Yeonjun's favorite.

The one he played on the speaker when they were cleaning up after school mass. The one he hummed once beside Beomgyu in the hallway, tapping his pencil like it was a beat.

The room didn't fall silent, but it shifted.

Giselle looked up.

Soobin glanced sideways.

Beomgyu didn't say anything. He reached for the popcorn again, tossed one up and missed.

"Haha," he said, casually. "Even Spotify's out here attacking me now."

Sunghoon forced a laugh. "Should we skip it—"

"No, no. It's a good song," Beomgyu said, way too fast. "I mean. He had good taste."

They didn't say Yeonjun's name.

They didn't need to.

Later that night, everyone was knocked out, Sunoo and Sunghoon and Jungwon tangled in a pile of pillows, Soobin finally clean-faced and snoring, Giselle curled up near the couch.

Beomgyu was still awake.

He sat by the window, earphones in. That same song, looping quietly. He didn't cry loud. No sobbing, no gasping. Just that kind of crying where your chest hurts, and your hands shake trying to keep your phone still.

He opened their old chat. Scrolled up. Just to see. Just to remember.

"you did well hyung," he whispered to the silence
