Luke's P.O.V
"Hey!" My best friend Ashton walked into my room. I was having my lad over for the night but he was the last to arrive. "I have news for you guys!"
"What's the news?" My other best friend, Calum asked. I could never pick but if you made me, I'd say Calum was my actual best friend. I've known him for the longest time & we've just been such good mates over the years.
"Well do you know my cousin Oliver?"
"No." Michael, the other friend I had over, shook his head. "I don't know him. Should I know him?"
"Oh, right. Well it doesn't matter if you actually do or not because he's a bouncer at that club Eights."
"Ah." I nodded in response. I remembered Ashton telling us when his cousin got that job a few months ago. We thought it was sick that he was a bouncer for such a cool club downtown.
"Well remember when I went a few weeks ago to that club & I told you about that band New Bloods that I saw there? & remember that I really liked them? Well they are playing tomorrow night & Oliver is working the door so he can get you guys in since you're underage & all."
Ashton was already eighteen & he was finished with school. He could get into the bars & the clubs obviously whereas Calum, Michael & I were in our last year of school & sadly still seventeen so we didn't have as much access to that nightlife.
"Yes!" Michael yelled extremely loud. "We need to go! You said the drummer was hot. We have to go. Dudes, we're going."
"I mean yea she was definitely easy on the eyes but their music was so cool. It's the genre we like. I mean they're just a guitar rock band with killer vocals."
"I'm down to go." I was in agreement. I could use some excitement like this in my life. It would beat another Friday night of drinking in my room to video games with the lads or going to one of those stupid high school parties I always am forced to attend. It's not like I want to attend those parties all of the time but I'm always invited so I have to go. Now, not to sound full of myself but I'm sort of popular in our school. It's mostly due to my brother's legacies so I'm popular by default just for simply being a Hemmings. Both of my brothers were prime athletes with high marks & just all-around good guys so with me being their youngest brother, I just walked right into everyone already knowing me & loving me.
I didn't ask to be popular, I don't let it get to my head but I can't deny that everyone at school does know my name.
I have the grades like my brothers but not the athletic skill. Calum is on the soccer team though & since he's my best mate, I still get involved with the sport crowd as well by association with him.
Our school popularity was like most other schools I think. The athletes, those with money & the attractive kids ruled the school. I don't love popularity either, it has an ugly side but there are some perks. I don't mind some of the parties I get invited to, though now they're getting boring & it's cool to walk down a hall at school & feel like you belong there since everyone is saying hey to you.
"Cool. I'll get the details of what time from Oliver & then I'll let you know."

The next night, Calum's sister Mali drove us to the club so that we wouldn't have to worry about a sober driver for later & then we waited in the queue to get in. Ashton went to double check that Oliver was currently working the door & he was, so we were good to go.
"I don't know why I like this band so much." Ashton began. "I like the raw feeling they have from being so new. I think the one guy said they've only been playing together for a few months. I mean you can't tell, they're very good, but their excitement to be on stage & stuff is new so it's cool. & their music is basically our music libraries."
