"Why uh, why are you here?"

Luke's P.O.V

Ellie's band had finished their gig & then they disappeared for a little bit. I think they were putting their instruments away in this little shack up the beach where I had seen other bands go throughout the night too. I wanted to keep an eye out for her since I really did want to finally talk to her tonight.

Once their gig ended, while I was watching out for her, the other three lads had another beer or two but since I was driving, I stopped drinking. It was fine, I didn't need it, & then we walked around the beach for a bit to check it out. Since the sun had set, the vibe was actually really cool & I'm happy we came, regardless if Ellie's band played or not.

A bit later, I saw Trevor at the bar so I could only assume that Ellie & the other band members were nearby. With a little more searching, I saw her.

"I feel like we're spying on her." Calum spoke up once he saw I was looking at her again.

"Why do you say that?"

"Well, were watching her from afar & we came to her gig & she has no idea we know about her. I feel like we're spying."

"Or we're fans." I corrected him. "We like her band, yea?"

"Well sure." He answered. "But still."

"So you want to talk to her tonight." Michael looked at me. "Why tonight?"

"Because she was phenomenal tonight & she deserves to be told so. I mean it's not like she can hate us for seeing her band play. & life is so short, why should I not tell her?"

"True." Calum agreed. "I mean I don't know what she'll exactly say to us but if you want to talk to her, you can."

"I'm going to." I decided. I was not leaving this beach until I told her good job & let her know that she rocked.

I watched her longer, she was sipping on what I assumed was a vodka cranberry & she was talking to her bandmates, laughing with them. A few people had come up to them & I could only assume they were people letting them know how well the gig went based on the reactions & the way the conversations seemed to go.

The final band then took the stage & since they were the biggest band, most people congregated back to the stage area to watch, her bandmates included. Ellie didn't go with them though.

I saw them walk off toward the stage & then I saw Ellie standing near the bonfire looking down at her phone & sort of starring off.

I wasn't sure why she chose to stand alone but I knew this was my chance to talk to her.

"Are you guys going to come with me?"

"Where?" Ashton asked me.

"To talk to Ellie."

"Oh." Calum spun to look at me. "This is happening now?"

"There's no time like the present. I don't know where this will go. I mean she may not even recognize us from school or maybe she's still going to be extremely quiet but regardless, I just want to tell her good job. She deserves to know that she's good."

"I'll come." Michael started walking towards her. "Why not. Let's go do this."

I then started walking towards her. Ellie's back was to us now so it wasn't until I had walked directly next to her that she could then notice us. She hadn't heard me approach her so I spoke up once I was next to her.

"Hey Ellie."

I'll never forget her reaction as she turned her head towards me.

Ellie looked at me & I have never seen someone's eyes widen like hers. It was as if once she saw me, she began to question a lot. She looked confused, she looked nervous, she was surprised. Her eyes grew & her jaw dropped.
