The concert was over. Beomgyu's legs hurt, his voice was half gone from singing the one Jennie song he actually knew, and his hand was still warm from holding Yeonjun's for three full songs.
He was in the passenger seat now, head leaning against the window, the streets flying by in a blur of neon and headlights. Jennie's encore song was still stuck in his head—and worse, so was Yeonjun's stupid grin.
"You enjoyed it," Yeonjun said again for the fifth time, glancing at him from the driver's seat like he'd won the lottery.
Beomgyu groaned. "I said it was fine."
"You sang along to 'You & Me,' don't lie."
"I had no choice! You literally screamed every word in my ear like a human megaphone!"
Yeonjun laughed, steering the car with one hand like he was in a drama. Beomgyu wanted to say something about keeping both hands on the wheel, but... he didn't. He kind of liked how relaxed he looked. Dumb and relaxed. And hot. Ugh.
"So," Yeonjun said casually, "when are we seeing her again?"
"We? Oh no. This was a one-time thing."
"You say that, but you were twirling your lightstick like a Jennie stan."
"I was defending myself. The girl next to me tried to fight me for existing."
"She wanted your man."
Beomgyu gave him a look. "She can have you."
"Bold of you to assume I'd ever look at anyone else."
Silence.
Beomgyu looked away quickly, hoping the streetlights would hide the way his ears turned pink.
He hated this. Hated how Yeonjun could say things like that so easily, like it was no big deal. Like it didn't make Beomgyu's chest feel all weird and floaty.
"You're being weird again," Beomgyu muttered.
"I'm being honest."
"Stop."
"Why?"
Beomgyu didn't answer. He just stared out the window, watching the city fly by, the post-concert adrenaline crashing into something much softer.
Yeonjun didn't say anything after that. He just turned the radio on low, some Jennie b-side playing faintly in the background as they drove.
Eventually, Beomgyu said, "...Thanks for the ticket."
Yeonjun glanced at him. "Thanks for saying yes."
And again—silence. But this time it wasn't awkward. Just warm. Gentle. The kind of quiet that sits between people who are maybe thinking the same thing but not brave enough to say it yet.
When they pulled up in front of Beomgyu's house, neither of them moved for a minute.
Yeonjun tapped the steering wheel. "Hey."
"Hm?"
"I know I act like an idiot sometimes—"
"Sometimes?"
Yeonjun chuckled. "Okay, a lot. But I meant it, you know."
Beomgyu looked at him. "Meant what?"
Yeonjun smiled, soft and stupid. "This thing. You and me."
And Beomgyu—
He hated how his heart did that flip thing.
He hated how he wanted to say something sweet back.
So he settled for: "Get lost, Romeo."
But he didn't slam the door too hard when he got out.
And Yeonjun didn't drive away immediately either.
He stayed there. Watching Beomgyu walk inside. Smiling to himself.
Like a boy who just saw Jennie Kim and held hands with his favorite person in the same night.
