"Great duel guys," Yuzu says, "And (y/n), your fusion summon was so cool! I wish I could do something like that." The burning returns to your cheeks. "Who taught you again?"

You perk up a bit at the question. "My mum. She is the best fusion duelist I know."

Sora joins the conversation as you finish, his eyes flicking to where your deck sits in your pants/skirt/dress/whatever pocket. "Do you know who taught her?"

"No, but Dad and her used to play each other all the time when I was little..." Your voice trails off. Talking about your dad was always hard. He had been gone since you were only 4 years old. The worst part was that you could hardly remember anything about him, other than what you got told by your mum.

Yuzu gives you a hug, and Yuya offers an understanding smile. You really didn't deserve friends like them [in this world you feel a bit unworthy, though in real life I have no doubt that you are awesome :)].

Sora grabs your hand and leads you out.

"Come on (y/n)! I know what will make you feel better!" He leads you to the ice-creams shop less than a block away. "But you're paying."

You roll your eyes. "Way to spoil the moment!"

Everyone laughs.

You fish through your bag for cash, and finally find enough to get the delicious looking (favourite flavour) ice-cream. Everyone else chooses their sweets too, and you head as a group back to the park to hang out.

"Yuzu, did you tell your dad where we were going." Your pink-haired friend sweat drops. "I'm sure it will be fine. He will know that we are all together. Plus, I'm 14! I can take care of yourself!" You smile.

You find a place under a large tree to sit and talk. Most of the conversation was filled with school and dueling. It seemed no one had anything going on in their lives.

You glance a Sora. He was awfully quiet.

"Hey Sora, you OK?" You ask quietly, not wanting to draw attention to yourself. The boy blinks, and for a second looks alarmed, but it quickly fades.

"Oh, yeah. Just thinking about how to beat you when I verse you tomorrow!" You offer him a smile and join the conversation with Yuzu and Yuya, not convinced.

Eventually, it gets late and you know your mum will be expecting you home, so you say goodbye to your friends and head back towards your house. The sun is low on the horizon, and the streets you have to walk are cast in shadows. It is not exactly the ideal conditions to be travelling alone. A shiver runs down your spine. You wrap your jacket around yourself in order to stay warm.

You hear a crash and a grunt from the alleyway to your right and you stop dead in your tracks, (e/c) eyes wide.

"It's nothing (y/n)," you tell yourself, "Probably just a stray cat or something."

A moan escapes from the darkness. Your breath catches in your throat. It sounds like someone is hurt.

Your gut tells you to run, but for once, you ignore it. If there is someone in the alley who needs your help, it is the least you could do to help them.

It is getting dark enough that the street lights come on, and a soft golden ring illuminates the path just outside the alley. A few rebellious rays slip past the barrier that marks the safety of the public street and venture into the unknown. It is not enough to see clearly by, but you can now make out some basic shapes and colours in the darkness.

You can now make out the shadowy figure hunched against the rubbish bin in the corner.

A familiar shiver retraces its path.
