*time skip to the day before the Arc League Championship starts*
You had spent the better part of the week avoiding Yuto and Shun. It's not that you don't want to see them, on the contrary you find yourself really missing them, it's just that you don't know how to act around them, or rather him.
However, with the Arc League Championships tomorrow, you don't really have much of a choice except to confront them. That's if you want your best chance of winning that is.
You sigh, getting up from the park bench you had been working on an assignment on. You gather your books and papers and stuff them into your shoulder bag. That was enough work for one morning. Plus, you were in a good enough mood that now would be the best time to find the two boys, before you changed your mind.
You sling the pale (f/c) bag over your shoulder and head towards the harbour, and the warehouse where you are most likely to find them.
When you arrive at the entrance to the now very familiar building, you hesitate before opening the door. While you have your reasons for being nervous, a small part of you still yells at you and calls these 'reasons' stupid and invalid. It was just a little crush after all. Wasn't it?
Even if it is more, though the thought scares you a bit, that still shouldn't get in the way of your dreams of being the best duellist in Paradise City, and one day hopefully, the world. With this in mind you stuff down your nerves and enter into the darkness.
"(y/n)?! What are you doing here?" You tense up at the sudden sound, but relax once you realise it is just Shun.
"Oh hey Shun!" Acting casual and what you hope comes across as normal seems like your best option. "I have a favour to ask if you have the time."
Shun gives you a look crossed between curiosity and concern. "I have time, but before that you must answer my questions. Why haven't you come to see us? And what was that all about the other day when you ran off? Yuto has been worried about you (y/n), and so have I. We haven't seen or heard anything from you for a while. Tell me when you started avoiding us."
"I haven't been avoi-"
"Yes you have."
"No I haven't." The lie comes too easily for your liking. "I really only just met you guys; so why should I spend every waking hour around you?! I have other things to do and-"
"Stop." Shun walks up to where you are standing and massages his temples slightly in annoyance. "Stop making up excuses for yourself and tell me the truth."
You shift your stance, feeling rather uncomfortable. Shun notices and thinks, then smirks.
"If this has anything to do with Yuto . . . I don't have to tell him what you say."
Your relief is audible.
"Promise?"
"Promise."
"Okay." You take a deep breath. "I have been avoiding you, or rather Yuto."
When you don't continue, Shun tilts his head slightly – the movement resembling that of a bird – and prompts you.
"Why?"
"Because . . ." You feel your face heat considerably. "I like him."
You dip your head quickly after your words, but Shun still catches the red brushed across your cheeks.
"You have a crush on him?! I knew it!"
You whip your head up again at his remark.
"You did?!"
His eyes glint in amusement. "I saw the blush on your cheeks when you ran by."
You bury your face in your hands.
"How am I meant to face him now?!"
"I don't think you will get a choice."
"What?"
"He heard everything."
"WHAT?!"
You lift your face from your hands in time to see a figure jump down from the landing. His raven and lavender hair is mussed from the wind outside, and his eyes are wide as they stare straight into yours, but the thing that strikes you the most is that he is smiling.
"(y/n)! I was worried I might never see you again!"
You just blink. "Shun. Explanation. Now."
"I had a hunch of why you were avoiding us, and so when I heard him come in towards the start of our conversation I signalled for him to stay put so that you didn't freak out. You just happened to be too busy taking interest in your shoes to avoid me seeing your blush to notice."
You don't need a mirror to know that the colour of your face would rival even Yuya's hair. After what feels like an eternity of you staring blankly ahead in shock, you finally work up the courage to speak.
"You heard us?" Yuto nods in response. "Everything?"
The second nod has you wishing the ground would open up and swallow you.
You consider your chances of running again and escaping them forever, never to be seen again, but Shun seems to read your intentions and upholds his side of your deal to distract you.
"What was the favour you wanted?"
You offer him a subtle glare, knowing the true purpose behind his words and timing.
"I want to learn to XYZ summon."
"What?!" You flinch slightly at Yuto's reaction and avoid looking at him.
"If I'm going to win the Championships, then I'll need all the help I can get. Just to be sure."
Shun answers.
"But the Championships start tomorrow. How do you expect to learn in that time?"
You cast your gaze towards the ground once again.
"Well, as you two are from the XYZ dimension, I thought you would be able to teach me in time." You glance up at Shun. "Plus, I'm a quick learner." You offer him a hopeful smile, but he only turns to Yuto.
"We can try, but I am too busy today."
Shun smirks then, and something about it worries you. He turns back to you and continues.
"Yuto on the other hand, is free, so why don't you two spend some quality time together."
Yuto looks just as shocked and nervous as you. "Shun, I don't think that's a good idea." His eyes find yours, and you find yourself unable to turn away, even with the mad blush colouring your cheeks. He knows.
Even though Shun allowed Yuto to listen in, as well as suggesting he teach you with the best of intentions, it didn't stop the fact that he now knows your feelings towards him, and complicated everything even further.
Shun notices your eye contact and smirks again. "It's not up for debate. Have fun."
With that he walks out of the building, not once looking back, and you are left staring wide-eyed after him.
You feel sick.
Now you are stuck with Yuto. And there is no way out.
