"Dad says that we have the all clear to go to the park if you want to get away."

You look to Yuya, and he nods. You try to make your way outside, but Sora jumps in the way.

"Where are you going? Can I come too?" The ice-cream has gotten him into a playful mood, and you don't know how to shake him off. You are lucky enough not to have to worry, though, due to Yuzu's quick thinking.

"Sorry Sora, but my dad has sent us out on some errands, and it will take a while. We will be going all over the place, and may not get back 'till late. Plus, as it is still technically class time, you can't leave without his permission. I really do wish you could come, but it's just not possible this time."

He pouts. "Oh come on! Pleeeeeeeeeease?!"

Yuzu offers him a sad smile and a shake of the head. He sighs in defeat and moves out of the way. Yuya and you then follow her out of the door, and towards the park where there is more privacy.

The park is a public space, and there are quite a few people about when you arrive, but you still find a nice quiet bench under a tree that is far enough away that no one will be able to overhear your conversation.

Once you are all settled, Yuya starts. "I am sorry about how I reacted the other day (y/n). I do believe you now."

Your tomato-haired friend looks ashamed enough that you believe him.

"I-it's okay. It is hard to believe."

"You have already explained how you are from some sort of 'Fusion' dimension, and that your father was turned into a card or something. Yuzu also said that your mum erased and tampered with a lot of your childhood memories, and that was one of the reasons why you were so angry at her. Am I getting this right?"

You nod in confirmation and signal for him to continue.

"That is all I know so far, but I have a question, well, more than one, but we have to start somewhere. What was so bad about this 'Fusion' dimension that your parents risked their lives to get you out?"

You were expecting this, but you still have to take a deep breath to steady yourself before answering.

"There was little freedom at Duel Academy, which is the school and institute where my parents worked as scientists. From a very early age, they trained children to be soldiers. They made them cruel and completely obedient, in order to create an army so that they could invade other dimensions."

Yuzu stops you. "Wait. There are more dimensions?"

You think back to Yuto and Shun, and what they told you about Heartland.

"Yes. I know that there is the Fusion dimension as well as the Standard dimension, which is this one. I also know about a place called the XYZ dimension, which is the one that Fusion has invaded. They all seem to be based around a summoning method, so I assume there is also a Synchro dimension."

"Oh." Yuzu has little to offer in response to your information.

"Anyway, back to Duel Academy. My mother had always been completely loyal to Academia, and supported what they were doing. This is because the Professor, who is the leader of Fusion, made everyone believe that there was no other way to get to their 'noble goal' of uniting the dimensions. [Your mum mentioned this to you at some point, k?]

"My father however, didn't like the violence and how they tampered with people's lives, and so had his doubts about Academia. My mother wouldn't listen though, and openly doubting the cause was not a good position to be in, so my dad kept quiet. I had been home-schooled for a lot of my life, but it was still compulsory for me to complete a certain level of schooling at the Academy.

"My mum claims that on my first day I beat almost every student, and even some teachers at Duel Monsters. I was also smarter and more mature than children my age. Being a scientist, she wanted to investigate this, and ran some tests. Apparently my brain functions at a higher level than most. She and her crew decided to keep me as an experiment and run a heap of tests. This went on for about a year and a half. My dad got tired of seeing me so tired and hurt from the tests, and so he ran away with me. Mum did love Dad, and so she chased after us. When she left her work for him, he was finally able to talk sense into her.

"Then when they returned to Duel Academy and continued working, she started looking for clues to prove that Academia was bad. She found them, and when I was . . . seven, I think, my parents took me and escaped. Dad didn't quite make it though, and he was carded. What is worse is that they tore up the card, so there is no way to get him back. Mum then used her knowledge from her job at Duel Academy to erase a lot of my memories, and tamper with the rest. The only good news is that she didn't have the technology at the time to make the change permanent, and my memories have started to come back."

Both of your friends just stare at you wide-eyed.

"Woah. That was not what I was expecting, but honestly, I do believe you." Yuya offers you a weak smile as he says it. "Two more questions if you have enough energy left to answer. One, what do you mean they experimented on you? And two, what was the catalyst of you delving into your past anyway? Was it that your memories started coming back, or something else?"

You don't really want to go into the whole experiments thing, so you decide on a half-truth. The second question would be easier though.

"I can't remember what the experiments were. As for question number two, it wasn't because my memories came back, but because some Academia soldiers found me. They told me some things about my past, and tried to get me to go back to the Professor with them. Duel Academy may send more soldiers after me, so I need to be on my guard."

Yuzu takes a step towards you.

"If I can have a say in it, then Academia won't lay a finger on you."

You smile, but it doesn't last long. "I don't want to drag you guys into this war."

"Look (y/n), if Duel Academy is invading the dimensions, then they will come after us eventually. We will be a part of this whether we like it or not."

You look to Yuya and he nods in agreement.

"Okay, but it's your funeral."

You wish the joke didn't sound so real.
