Suddenly, I hear a knock on the door. I frown in confusion, wondering who could be paying me a visit at this hour. It's already dark outside. Besides, everyone I know is busy. I pause the movie and get up from the sofa, carrying my bucket of popcorn with me. I hear the person knock on the door again. "I'm coming, I'm coming!" I call out as I walk towards the entrance, still stuffing popcorn onto my mouth. Once I reach the door, I quickly unlock and open it to reveal the man standing outside. I gasp in shock and drop my bucket of popcorn, not caring that the popcorn spills everywhere as I realize who the man standing on my front doorstep is. I was not expecting this guy to show up. Ever. I wish it had stayed that way, honestly.
The two of us stare at each other, not moving a muscle. The tension starts to build and the silence is deafening. Why is he here? Why now? I fold my arms over my chest and frown. "Where's Scott?" Agent McCall asks me in a monotone voice.
"I could ask you the same question. I could also ask you what the hell are you doing here? Not just in Beacon Hills, but why you decided to come to my house? Are you trying to fire my dad again?" I ask as I narrow my eyes suspiciously. I have no reason to trust this man. He's hurt Scott by not being in his life. He hasn't been a father that Scott can look up to. I know why he left Melissa and Scott, but still. He has had plenty of time in the past to try and make up for his mistakes, but no, McCall just focused on his work. He's made it even worse by removing himself from Scott's life. Work means more than family, right? Note the sarcasm there.
"I'm looking for Scott, of course. I need to talk to him. As his best friend, I assumed that you would know where he is or that he would be here." Agent McCall answers.
"I am glad that you found your dad, Stiles. I'm not here to fire him either. He's probably one of the best people for his job." He continues.
"You didn't think that last time." I grumble in annoyance.
"I've put things into perspective since then. I know better now. He's doing a hell of a good job to keep Beacon Hills safe from all the strange things that seem to happen in this town." The FBI agent replies. He shakes his head sadly.
"I should've gotten Melissa and Scott out of here a long time ago, before this town became a place known for its mysteries and trouble." He says more to himself than me.
"Then why didn't you? You have had every opportunity to come back here and have a relationship with your son again, or move him out of Beacon Hills, but you didn't." I ask him in an annoyed tone.
"It's more complicated than that, Stilinski. I doubt you'd understand." Agent McCall sighs.
"Actually, I do understand. I do know what happened that night, remember? I get that it's hard for you to face the reality of it. I know that it's just easier to forget the truth. I do. But if you ever want to have a father-son relationship with Scott again, you need to be honest with him about everything." I tell Scott's father seriously.
"It makes it harder since Scott doesn't seem to want me in his life anyway. It'll just make him hate me more. You know what? It was a mistake coming here. I should just head back to Washington." McCall argues with me. I raise my eyebrows, surprised that he is giving up easily. Actually, no, I'm not surprised. I'm annoyed. I take a few steps closer to him and look the man in the eyes. "Look, I'm going to be honest with you, McCall. I'm not a huge fan of yours for obvious reasons. However, you are Scott's father and I am Scott's best friend. We both care about him and want what's best for him. I know it's been hard on Scott growing up with only one parent. I have been and still am in the same sort of boat as him in that sense. I don't approve of what you did all those years ago and I don't like that you basically removed yourself from your family's life, but I'm not going to stop you from wanting to try and be the father that Scott can be proud of. I think it would be great if the two of you could have a father-son bond. It's very special, believe me. But before that, you need to tell him the truth. You can't be keeping something like this from him. It has changed his whole life! He needs to know why you weren't there for him." I explain to Scott's father as honestly as I can.
"I don't think he hates you though. You are his father. All he wanted was to spend more time with you, but you would just randomly vanish from his life. As a person who never got to say goodbye and how much they loved their mom and as someone who couldn't have their mother watch them grow up, I know that you will regret not fixing things with your son. Please don't leave it until it's too late." I continue seriously. The FBI agent stares at me with curious interest.
"You know, you're very wise for your age, Stiles. You might act sarcastic or hyperactive on the outside, but on the inside, you're very mature." He comments.
"What can I say? After all that has happened to me, I've had to grow up fast." I shrug, answering McCall truthfully.
"So, going back to my original question, since I don't think you told me the truth the first time. Do you know where Scott is?" He asks me. I look at the tall man for a few more seconds, considering his question carefully.
"He's at the school library with Lydia for some extra study help." I eventually sigh in answer.
"Okay. Thank you, Stiles."
"Wait, does Melissa even know that you're back in town?" I ask curiously before Scott's dad can turn to leave.
"No, not yet. I'll probably go tell her now." He answers me.
"Yeah, it'll be better if she knows before Scott does." I comment. I consider telling him that Scott and I are a couple, but I decide against it. I'll let Scott explain that one. He is Scott's father, after all.
"Hey, Agent McCall? I'm going to try and help you to reconnect with Scott, because I have a feeling you will need it." I add. The man smiles gratefully at me.
"Okay, thank you. That means a lot to me. I'll see you around, Stiles." Agent McCall tells me before he turns around and leaves the house, shutting the front door behind him. I sigh as I run a hand through my hair. There's always something going on, isn't there? It might not be supernatural related, but the drama never ends in this town for me and my friends.
