A/N: Sorry for late update. I'm gonna try to update once or twice a week but I've been really busy working and doing stuff for the holidays. Thanks for being patient with me, readers!
Zim clutched the stems of the flowers he messily stole from the creepy man across the street. Sure, the petals were falling off and they were actually more brown than they looked as he was picking them, but...Y/N would still like them, right? He extended his finger towards the doorbell, and suddenly jerked it back. Negative thoughts suddenly filled his mind. Why would Y/N ever feel that way about him? She had already told him she had NO romantic feelings for him. Zim shook his head, attempting to shake those things out of his head, but rejection was one of the very few things Zim was afraid of. "Forget it." He muttered, turning around and dropping the flowers on the ground as he began to walk back. "Hey, Zim!" His face flushed as he stopped in his tracks and slowly turned around to see Y/N standing on her porch. "I was just about to come over..why were you heading back?" "Wellllll, um, you see..I forgot something!" "What'd you forget?" She closed her front door behind her and began walking towards him. "Oh, wait, where'd these flowers come from?" Zim looked around anxiously, looking for any excuse he had to cover up his tracks, but to no avail. Y/N was eyeing him strangely now. She knew something was going on. "Zim..? What's up with you today?"
Now he was growing more annoyed with himself than anything. "Oh, fine, Y/N! Look, I brought them for you. As a gift." Her eyes lit up and she smiled as she gathered them up from the ground. "Well, um..they are very pretty..if they weren't so mangled. Hey, these look like the ones from-" "From creepy old guy's house, yes, yes, I know. The quickest ones I could get to, so...sorry." "Why are you sorry? And why are you bringing me flowers?" She perked up, a smile going from ear to ear now as she awaited his response. "WELL, I have absolutely NO experience with this kind of thing whatsoever, so just be thankful that I find you worthy enough to do so." Zim responded with a half smile, his eyes darting the other direction to avoid Y/N's. "I am thankful. And you should be thankful that I find you worthy enough to accept your flowers! I don't accept gifts from just any alien, you know." Zim laughed a bit, and so did she. What did this mean? Y/N has accepted his gift of affection with pride. "So did you want to hang out, then?" She asked, breaking the laughter off and he nodded. "Sure." "So can you show me your lab today?" "No!" Zim's smile dropped almost immediately and Y/N frowned. "You have promised and promised and PROMISED, Zim! You don't trust me enough?" "Hey, I do! I just, um..I need to tidy it up a bit before I bring any visitors down. I haven't introduced anybody besides myself and Gir to the lab before, and um..I wouldn't want you to think anything different of me."
Zim knew that if Y/N stepped foot into his lab, he would have to touch it up first to hide any signs of the doom he planned to spread over this planet. But is destroying the planet where he has actually found somebody who enjoys his company, and makes him happy worth it? And how would Y/N even react to knowing that it was once apart of his future plan to destroy this girl and her entire people? "Not today, Y/N, I promise, you can visit soon." She sighed, twirling the flowers around in her fingers as she did so. It was something he hated, that adorable, sad face she made when he refused her, but he knew he had to keep his distance. If she ever discovered the truth about him, she would despise him. She would fight to destroy him, maybe even join Dib in his efforts, even go as far as to expose his true identity to the world?! Zim blinked a couple of times and swallowed in fear. He couldn't risk anything. "Y/N, I have to go, I will see you very soon, okay?" He backed away, turning around and sprinting to his house. He locked the door behind him and sighed, sliding down against the wall. Safety. The comfort of his own home. "I can trust Y/N. I don't need to be worrying this much." He told himself, putting his chin in his hands as he balanced his arms on his knees. He stared across his living room. He felt so small on this big planet. Y/N was the one thing that made him feel like he was important here. He sighed, closing his eyes and leaning his head back against the wall. He drifted off, his worries floating away with his dreams.
