Y/N had just walked out, shooting her hand up into a wave as Zim returned it with a shy smile. He was still standing by the door a couple minutes after she had left, his mind stuck in the moments that just passed. "Whatcha doin', master?" Gir asked, shocking Zim out of his state of mind. "Um, nothing. I was just, uh..noticing how dingy this door is getting. Yikes. It really is pretty bad." Zim noticed, rubbing a gloved finger over the paint that was beginning to peel off of the door. "Y/N and I are closer than ever now, Gir. Hopefully things will turn out for the best here." Gir had already distracted himself with something else, and Zim had a smile painted on his face as he reminisced on his words. Again, he was forced out of his dreamlike state from a ringing noise coming from his lab. Incoming call? But nobody ever calls Zim? Zim ran down to the lab and was surprised to see that his giant computer screen had "Incoming call from Irken Headquarters" in large letters across it.
Zim's mind raced in anxiety. The Tallest had no reason to be contacting him, did they? If they found out about him and Y/N, they'd - "Hello, my Tallest, how can I be of assistance?" Zim asked, not even realizing that he had clicked answer. "Oh, why is Zim on the screen?" Purple asked, looking genuinely confused, and Red appeared in the video screen after a couple seconds as well. "Wow, nice job, looks like you hit the wrong button." Red sighed, rolling his eyes as Zim awaited a response from his leaders anxiously. "Sooo...you didn't mean to call me? You don't need anything from me? No important questions or situations that would completely ruin me?" Red shrugged, glancing at Purple. "Nothing comes to mind. Um, anything?" Purple shook his head. "Nope! But uh, hey, how's that planet going?" Zim jumped, becoming nervous at the mention of it. "Uh, terrible! It's awful! I cannot wait to destroy this planet and the HORRIBLE creatures that inhabit it!" Zim shouted, doing his best to sound confident, but his stomach turned as he was suddenly finding it hard to be serious about that. "So you're actually doing pretty well down there, huh?" Red responded, looking impressed. "What's your progress? Do you have any diabolical plans yet?" "Eh! Um, my Tallest, I wish not to disclose this information just yet in case any of the humans are spying..some of them actually are pretty intelligent."
"Well, when you're ready, just let us know if you need backup! We'll send out the armada and destroy all those pesky humans." Purple beamed, high-fiving Red as Zim faked a smile, becoming more and more anxious as the call continued on. "Well, since this call clearly was not intended for me in the first place, it seems that I am not needed here any longer!" Zim blurted out, his heart racing as the Tallest nodded and cut the call off before Zim could say anything else. Zim sighed in relief, sliding back against the control panel for his enormous computer. "Why am I so attached to her already?" He groaned, frustrated with himself. There had been Irkens on his own planet that had offered themselves to be his mate but he had refused. Romance had never been important to him, and the one time it was, it was because he was faking it. He knew there was something off about Tak, and he thought if he tried to sway her to like him, he would find out. She ended up being a crazy Irken anyway, but ya know. Zim stood up after a little while and returned to the main level of his base. He sighed, and hopped up on the couch next to Gir, who reached over to share his candy with Zim. "Thanks." Zim told his robot friend, and put the candy stick in his mouth. "Gir?" "Mhmmm?" "How do you do it?" "Do what?" "No worries about anything." "I learned it from you, master." Zim leaned his head back against the couch and realized that Gir was right.
Y/N had changed him completely. He used to be a cold, angry, solitary alien. And he meets this random girl who saves his life and cares about him and makes him feel not-so-alone, and his life gets turned upside down. How was it so easy this time around?
