"I was sent here to destroy it." Zim's words bounced back and forth across Y/N's mind in what seemed like slow motion. Zim waited anxiously for her response. Regrettably, his left hand had slid across to the "self destruct" button behind his back if things went worse than he imagined. "How long have you even been here?" She finally spoke, and his eyes widened at her surprisingly normal question. "Um, a while. But I'm pretty good at disguising myself." Y/N scoffed, resulting in Zim's confidence shrinking by the slightest. "Look, if you were sent here to destroy my planet, then why haven't you?" Her words weren't shaky anymore, but more so curious. "I...well, understand this, Y/N, it is not so easy to destroy slash conquer an entire planet and race! You can ask Dib. I've been close a couple of times." Trying not to sound proud about that statement was proving to be extremely difficult for the alien. His eye twitched to show his internal struggle.

"Why have you not run away? Surely you cannot expect things to be normal between us now." Zim asked after receiving no response from the girl. The continued silence between them was beginning to become painful. Zim could feel his antennae twitching under his wig and his hands were starting to shake. "Because." Zim's eyes immediately snapped up to Y/N, pleading for anything else. "Because it's not so easy to give up on somebody you care about. You've almost succeeded at destroying my world, my friends, my family, and me, too. But looking at you, after all we've been through, I still care." "What is this feeling?" Zim cried out, clutching his stomach as he fell to his knees. His heart was beating incredibly fast. He knew how his feelings were evolving. There's no way this could work out.

He exhaled what sounded like a frustrated growl, digging his hands into the sharp concrete. His gloves were scratched and slightly torn at the edges now, but he didn't care. "Is there something you need to tell me, Zim?" Y/N asked, crossing her arms after taking another step towards the weakened alien she stood before. Zim scowled, almost completely at himself. What were you thinking, falling for a human? The corner of his mouth turned up in a slight wince of pain as he dragged his sensitive finger across the concrete. In the tiny hole of his glove, a drop of blue blood hit the ground and stained it. He despised how weak he had become. "I believe I owe you an apology. We are friends. And friends do not lie to each other." He finally said, standing up and brushing off his knees. "I will keep you out here no longer. If you wish to leave, just leave. I harbor no harsh feelings towards you and I know this is my own doing." The more he spoke about it, the less confident he sounded. "I am capable of being alone. I have done it my whole life. You shouldn't worry about me." He turned his back before Y/N could respond and began walking towards his house. Everything felt heavy.

He walked inside and shooed his robotic parents away. Zim stared at the emptiness of his living room and it seemed to stare back. Gir wasn't even anywhere to be found. Zim sighed and slid back against the wall next to his front door. He balanced his chin in his hands and closed his eyes with a sigh. "I can't destroy this planet, can I, Computer? Not with Y/N here." "Y/N is the only reason you're doubting this mission?" Zim, clearly annoyed, threw his hands in the air. "Duh! Of course she is. If she hadn't saved me that night, vowed her friendship to me, and been so horrifyingly cute, then I would be detonating the planet right now!" Zim shouted, breathing heavily by the end of his outburst. The house was silent for only a moment. "You understand you're lying to yourself and you're just worried that you've grown too comfortable here, not just with Y/N, but with everything else, right?" Zim didn't answer. He picked the peeling skin off of the cut on his finger and didn't feel any pain this time.

A piece of paper slid quickly into Zim's living room from under the front door, causing him to shriek at the sudden movement in his empty home. "Okay..." Zim said under his breath, reaching for the paper. "That never happened." Unfolding the note, he was shocked to recognize the handwriting.

Zim,

Because you aren't very familiar with this whole "dating" thing, anyway, I figured I would give you a hint. All human relationships involve fights, arguments, disagreements, even moments where we hurt each other and don't mean to. I know you don't want to go through with your plan anymore. So we can call this a small disagreement and talk more about things tomorrow afternoon?

- Y/N.

Zim immediately stood up, and frantically looked out of the window. Y/N shot him a smile as she walked backwards towards her house, and he shyly returned it with a quick wave goodbye. "Computer, you were right." Zim stated confidently, hands on his hips as he sighed in relief. "Y/N is more important to me than any of the junk I was worried about before."
