"My leaders are coming here to destroy the planet because I have decided not to do so." Zim finally said, breaking the awkward silence. "I'm leaving now," Gaz stood up and left the room, her brother staring in shock. "Gaz! Did you even hear...she doesn't care. Okay. Um...are you asking me for help?" Dib seemed even more in shock at the fact that Zim had to stoop this low. "Unfortunately...but the tech from your father's lab could prove useful. We have 10 days until the Tallest's ship reaches Earth." "10 days?! That's not nearly enough time to prepare!" Zim rolled his eyes and glared at Dib. "Are you willing to assist us or not, human?" "It was my mission before to keep this planet safe from you so obviously I'm on board. Is...Y/N helping?"

Zim turned away at the question to hide the color that rushed to his face almost immediately. "Yes. She is back at the base with Gir preparing the home shields for her and the humans that live in this area. And that includes this one, so do not worry." "So she's totally cool with the fact that you WERE going to destroy her world?" "QUIET! Y/N and I understand each other...there is no need to pry, Dib." Zim narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms. "What tech are you willing to spare?" "Whatever I can get my hands on...I'll get back to you with it all tomorrow. I'll have to sneak stuff from my dad." "Affirmative. Your assistance is appreciated." The alien and the boy stood across the room from each other in an awkward silence for a short amount of time before Dib broke the silence. "How'd you find out?" Zim's eyes darted quickly from the floor to Dib. "Find out...what?" He was glaring at the human cautiously, keeping his guard up. He already knew what Dib was talking about, though.

"Come on, Zim... we're about to be fighting in a war alongside each other. Drop the act." Zim sighed, uncrossing his arms. "I found your stupid spy bug." He spat the words in distaste, but immediately changed his demeanor as he was reminded of his failure as an Irken. Dib decided not to ask Zim which spy bug it was and to instead apologize. "I don't want or need your pity, Dib. I just need your tech." "Look, I know you feel really bad right now, and I know you think you're doing a great job at pretending like you don't, but you aren't." "What makes you so curious of my emotions all of a sudden?" Zim shouted. "The fact that you even HAVE emotions! The entire time I've known you, all you've wanted to do is destroy this planet and everything on it. No regrets, no second thoughts, nothing. Until now." Zim was quiet. Why was he even entertaining this conversation anymore? Dib said he'd share his tech - that's all that he came for. "She must be really important to you."

The words echoed in Zim's head for a minute or so before he finally gave in. "She is. When she found out about my plans, I assumed she would never speak to me again. That she would even go as far as to exploit my mission. But all she did was slide a note under my door telling me she wanted to understand. She was created differently from the rest." Dib was smiling, although he didn't understand why. Maybe it was the idea that finally, this lifelong battle was over between these two. "If she's able to find any kind of enjoyment in your craziness, then yeah. She really is different." Zim opened his mouth to snap back at Dib, but stopped himself when he saw the boy's crooked smile. "A joke." "Kind of." Dib shrugged, still smiling. "I'll let you know what I can find tomorrow." "Okay...much appreciated." Zim turned around and made his way to the front door. "Can you tell those gnomes to back off now, though? So I don't get killed before I even make it to your door?" Zim laughed at the stupidity of that question. "Silly Dib, those gnomes were specifically programmed for that task. What purpose would they have if I took it away from them?" A sigh filled the room. A loud enough sigh that caused Zim to look at Dib one last time before he left, and give him a swift shrug of the shoulders. "I will consider it."

"Good news?" Y/N's eyes were sparkling with hope as Zim entered his home. "Yes..." Zim replied, a smirk on his face as he walked past her and into the kitchen. "Where are you going?" "Back to the lab, I have work to do." "Can...I come with?" "You can," Zim responded quickly, admiring the excitement on her face. "I was hoping that you'd want to." She was blushing enough now that no words escaped her lips while they took the hidden elevator down. "Did Gir finish programming the shields?" Zim was quite short, and he was moving very fast once they reached the lab. Fast enough that Y/N broke into a jog to catch up with him. "Well, no...you can't put much faith into Gir if you aren't here to reprimand him when he gets distracted." "Did you not reprimand him in my place while I was absent?" She sighed, shaking her head. He smiled, already knowing that she wouldn't dare raise her voice at Gir with the level of respect he had for her. "Gir, I have returned. I need you to complete the assignments I gave you before I left earlier. Home shields for the local houses in this area, and yes - that includes the Dib's house." "Okie dokie!" Gir's bouncy voice gave an almost immediate response.

"Do you think he will actually do them?" Y/N asked, peering over Zim's shoulders as he typed into his computer. "It's hard to put much faith in Gir at all to get a task done. So no," He finished typing, glancing up at the screen to make sure that what was on the screen was correct. "What's that?" "It's a blaster blueprint I compiled a while ago. I could probably put it to use soon." She examined the detail closely - Zim really was quite intelligent. And terrifying, too, when you consider the fact that this was probably created to kill someone or something on this exact planet. "Are you going to make me a weapon, too?" "Absolutely not." "WHY?!" She exclaimed, using her hands to physically turn him to face her. He was trying not to laugh when he saw her face...and she noticed. "Do you think that's funny? Why won't you make me one? I'm your girlfriend," She pouted, the word 'girlfriend' breaking him out of his humor. "Ah...well...you've never even shot a gun before, let alone an Irken weapon. Do you know how powerful this device is going to be?" "Really powerful. That's why you should teach me how to shoot it."

"Teach you to - you're funny, Y/N. Hilarious. And very cute."
