06 → "THE ARRIVAL OF THE UNCONSCIOUS GIRL"

Once Alby had been taken to the Medic hut, being restrained as he went through the Changing, Gally had taken the liberty to call a Gathering — except the Gathering was for everyone this time. It wasn't just the members of the Council that had to sit in, but the entirety of the Gladers. Apparently Gally thought it was mandatory to have everyone sit in this time. So, that's where they stood, half an hour later. Thomas sat on a stool, told to keep quiet by Gally. The other Keepers stood around, listening to the Keeper of the Builders ranting on.

"Things are changing." Gally began. "And there's no denying that. First Ben gets stung in broad daylight, and then Alby."

Gally paused as a way to give dramatic effect to his speech. Boys had their eyes trained to the ground, most except for Gally, Newt, Thomas and a few Gladers. Adeline stared at her feet, kicking around a pebble on the ground.

"And now our Greenie here ..." Gally continued. " ... has taken it upon himself to go into the Maze, which is a clear, violation of our rules here."

Thomas looked up at those words, and so had Adeline. Nobody dared to speak over Gally, and Adeline really had no motivation to listen to his rambling after his outburst last night at dinner.

"Yeah." Frypan spoke up this time. "But he saved Alby's life."

Gally raised his eyebrows, almost shocked at the words 'saved Alby's life'. Although, Adeline couldn't help but agree with the Keeper of the Cooks. Technically, he did save his life, even if Alby was currently unconscious inside the Medical hut.

"Did he? For three years, we have coexisted with these things." Gally continued, pointing at the Greenie, who looked almost guilty. "And now you've killed one of them. Who knows what this could mean for us?"

"Well, what do you suggest we should do?" This came from Newt, who was leaning against one of the posts holding up the Council hut. Gally gave a slight shrug of his shoulders.

"He has to be punished." Gally stated. Boys began to disagree at that. Adeline didn't even know how to respond to that. Her head shot up at his words, her eyebrows scrunching together. But, as boys disagreed, Newt turned his attention to Minho.

"Minho." Newt said. "You were there with him, what do you think?"

Everyone's attention turned to the Runner, who hadn't even said a word during the Gathering. This was out of character for Minho, who always had to have a say at something. Adeline's eyes landed on the Keeper, waiting for what he has to say. Giving a sigh, Minho spoke up.
